Build Week 42 Discussion

Well I officially got my allocation and placed my deposit / order today for my 2022 M3 Competition RWD. I got pretty lucky and started reaching out to dealers on Tuesday and secured this allocation this morning at a local dealer in the Phoenix, AZ area. I reached out to dealers all across the Southwest. I currently drive a 2015 M4 so excited to be able to make the transition to this car when it gets delivered. I was told to expect the car mid-late December but keeping my fingers crossed for an earlier delivery. I placed the order today and my sales advisor told me he was shocked that the order already got accepted by Germany and in motion. My build is as follows:

2022 M3 Competition RWD
Frozen White Metallic
826M bi-color wheels
Fiona Red / Black interior
Carbon Fiber interior trim
Executive package
M compound brakes with red calipers
Front ventilated seats
M shadowline lights
ZPK Park assistant (dealer was able to add this on and said it won't be a stop sale with my current build date)

I was a bit nervous about the frozen metallic paint but after seeing it in person I fell in love with it even though I know it can be a bit harder to maintain. This is going to be a long 3.5-4 months of waiting.

My allocation is week 42 according to the dealership. I think that is completed build week and production starts 1-2 weeks prior. Hoping everything stays on track.

Got moved from build week 38 to 42.

I called Genius this morning; they did not mention a specific part was causing a "delay" when I asked. It may just be more of a scheduling oversight from what I've seen in other threads.

*knocks on carbon fiber* Getting the car for Christmas would be pretty cool.

Here's my spec.

M3 Competition
- Oxide Grey Metallic
- Fiona Red/Black Full Merino Leather
- 19"/20" 825M orbit grey wheels
- M Compound Brakes with Red Calipers
- Executive Package
- Driving Assistance Professional Package
- Parking Assistance Package
- Carbon Fiber Trim
- Front ventilated seats
- M shadowline lights
- Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight
- M Carbon Exterior Package

i got allocation on 8/28 (got my production number), but my build hasn't moved from status 111 yet..

If I am scheduled for a certain build week, would my status have moved from 111 at this point?

Try to talk to a representative. They'll be able to tell you what week the build is scheduled for.

Not sure what build week I am but its late December delivery. Individual frozen deep grey paint so a longer wait. If I had picked a standard colour my build slot was late October, but do it once and do it right for me.

^^^Someone told me you loose an option for going with frozen paint. I dont know what option it is though. Is that true? And do you know what option it is, that you lose?

That sounds completely false. I added just about every option with frozen paint, except carbon ceramic brakes or a few options that conflicted, like you can't have ventilated seats with the carbon bucket seats, etc.

You loose lane change assist, it comes down to paint thickness and the sensors (apparently only the stock colours are certified due to cost)

Note
Please note that with U490 BMW Individual paint the function “Lane change assistant”, which is a part of option 5AU “Driving assistant professional” has to be deactivated. This happens by adding option 8TR "decoding additional function".

so is the individual white/blue that is on the build configurator (build your own on bmw.com) slightly different?

I don't see U490 or 8TR on my build sheet? Or is that elsewhere?

I only came across it on the individual website:
https://visualizer.bmw-individual.com

when you click on special paints it flags it up, and frozen white is on it. Also see this post:

The problem with the new radar sensors is that different paints reflect or scatter the radar waves differently. In the development phase, every BMW standard production paint is tested and optimized for radar compatibility, but the majority of BMW Individual Manufaktur 490 paints (developed pre-LCA) have not been tested. It may well be that the sensors works without any problems - or there may be many false or non-detections.
