Anyone runs on Sunoco SS 100 octane racing gas? Tried it on my F80(stock tune) and I can feel the acceleration is a lot smoother in low gears, not sure if it makes car faster though. Havent tried it on my G80 yet. With Bay area gas price surges like crazy($7+/gallon from Shell 91), I dont feel so bad about spending 2 dollars more on racing gas…

here in italy the normal gas is 95 octane + 5% E85, then we have the performance from ENi and Q8 for instance, both 100 Octane and 5% E85 in it.7

off course, my remapped M140i and my M3 runs only with 100 octane (despite the price.....)

Don't think its worth it with a stock tune. Our premium in NC is 93.

Range of octane here in NC is 87, 89, 90 no ethanol,93 & 100. 100 is not common but some stations have it at the pump. Used to get mine in Cary, NC. Don't know if its still available there.

Some dyno pulls I did on another stock BMW ran out of power gains about 94.5 (mix 93/100) octane. From there up you needed mods to take advantage of the higher octane.

Ran 100 when the car had a higher level tune & some performance parts. Without 100 would take a hit under load pulling fuel & timing.

Base tune was a JB4 stacked with a COBB flash tune. I could dial it back on the fly for lower octane daily driving through the steering wheel buttons. Also ran 93/E85 mix on occasion.

EU ratings are 95/98, which are equivalent to US ratings of 91/93. So, EU 95 octane = US 91 octane and EU 98 octane = US 93 octane.

This is a precursor to "my rod bearings/crank hub went"
Can I use AKI 91 long term without issue? Since, it is the minimum?
Of course. 91 and up is fine.

All the previous hate towards ethanol is interesting. As someone who has run 30%+ ethanol in an N54 for over 8 years I don't understand it. My N54 has also been on 100% E85 for quite some time without issues.

It's less fuel efficient but burns cleaner and has huge power and engine safety benefits. All else equal, the chance of engine knock is greatly reduced on higher ethanol blends.

Anyway, to the recent question, yes 91 octane is more than fine. Plenty of states in the US don't even have 93 octane. We only have 91 octane here in Colorado and it's crap fuel, but it works fine on a stock engine. I would never tune or mod any turbo engine without running at least E30, though. Pump gas sucks.

It’s really expensive for 93 octane for me

True or False:

I've heard that in higher elevations, such as here in Colorado Springs @6,600ft avg., you can get away with using "MID-GRADE" on cars that require 91oct minimum.

Honest question from someone that still does not fully understand the relationship or effect of octane at sea level vs. high elevation.

Surprised at no European comments, yet. When I took ED on my '18 the factory rep told me I did not "have to use 100 octane," but did not comment otherwise. I figured that was why my engine was rated 503 HP in the U.S. and 510 HP in Europe.

I found 100 octane everywhere I went in Europe and used it half the time (usually Shell). No apparent difference over the 93 or 95 octane there but I was not pushing the car to its limits yet.

It's correct, in Brazil Ethanol is very common and you get a 110 octane. With a remap, you can extract a lot more power from the engine. It's amazing, caveat is the 30% less MPG compared to normal Gas.

Even gas there has 27.5% ethanol, all cars still running without problems.

For information, some BMW models there are called Flex, you can put 100% etanol or 100%, or even mix them. Even you use 100% ethanol is normal to get like 5hp/10hp(This is for all cars).

Europe uses a different measuring system. 1 EU = 0.9863 US

Similarly, regular in CO used to be 86, vice 87 most anywhere else.
