Anyone able to get below MSRP in the Bay Area on an m3?

Two of the BMW dealers quoted me MSRP in the Bay Area. I ordered mine back in September for MSRP. Maybe wait if you want less than MSRP or see if you can find a M3 on the lot?

Good afternoon!

Looking at getting back into an M3 after a long hiatus. 2024 G80 base w/ MSRP $82350. 12k/36 lease. Was quoted the following:

Monthly: $1490
Residual: 60%
MF: .00307
$0 down
$1490 due at signing

Options include:

Black sapphire
Fiona Red
Executive Package
Park Assist
Style 826M wheels
Carbon Fiber trim
Adaptive Laserlight
Shadow line

Is this MF looking inflated? Equates to 7+%. First new to me M3. Hoping for some guidance, please. Deeply grateful!

That's leasing in 2023. Lease rates are always 1-1.5% higher than what BMW will give for a finance. Dealers are also allowed to mark up rates a little, but you can expect them to be a bit higher than a finance.

If you can afford it, you'll make out better in 3 years financing it on a 60 month loan at a lower interest rate than leasing. And you can put money down on a finance to incur less interest. (still no $ down on a lease)

BMWFS base MF this month is .00267 so yes, the dealer is marking it up by 40 basis points (the maximum permissible by BMWFS).

Started looking at paperwork since my M3 is arriving at the dealership around next week, salesman included a 1% "Sales service fee" on the paper and said that was his commission. I told him that I had never seen anything like that before, and that shouldn't commission, if any come from the profit margin of the car? He told me BMWs don't have a large profit margin. Doesn't sound quite right to me, the M3 is at MSRP otherwise. Is this just another way of charging markup?

That is BS. I’ve never seen a SA tack on commission. I would push back on that one.

That is 100% BS. Have them remove it, or walk away. It’s the dealership’s responsibility to pay their employees, not you.

He’s making ~$900 on the car? I don’t think so. Def tell them to take it off, or walk. That’s just a money grab.

I would not give that dealership my business.

So the sales manager called me today after I told my salesman to remove that nonsense, said they couldn't take that off but he would add that amount to my trade in. A bit more of tax savings as well, I only agreed to it since they had already given me a trade in offer prior to this and the numbers were fair. I did make it abundantly clear though that I wanted this contract printed out, signed, and everything locked in place and that I did not want to waste my time driving down there to pick up only to have more games played. For the time being, delivery tentatively set for next weekend (car gets off the boat today). Hoping they stick to their word.

Nice job. Did he say it was sales commission or dealer mark up?

Honestly, it still sucks. It gives them an additional way to scam profit from the customer, and if they say they can’t remove it they’ll be able to show future customers that everyone before them paid it.

The larger problem is that you’d have to wait another 4-6+ months for another car, and they know they have you over a barrel.

He referred to it the exact same way the salesman did, "sales service fee" and didn't specify.

Total BS. It’s one thing if they say that upfront. Shoehorning a 1% service fee is bad form.

This reminds me of preordering a meal via a app/website, walking in to pick it up and the person who gets paid to prepare you meal looking for a tip. Tipflation is out of control. Seriously, I would walk due to this entitlement behavior. Did you agree to this “sales commission” when you ordered you car? If no, then you can always file a complaint with your state attorney general and better business bureau.

Of course not. I was referred to this dealership/sales associate by my friend who had recently bought his m3 competition xdrive there, which he told me he got at exactly msrp, no add-ons. I contacted the salesman and we agreed to an allocation at msrp, nothing else. Turns out my friend also paid said fee and didn’t even look too closely when he signed the sales contract on taking delivery, he thought the sales service fee was his deposit that he put down (I didn’t have to give a deposit for my allocation).

Yeah, that’s the MO, count on people not reading/questiong the sales contract. Makes you wonder how much money they’ve swindled from people.

Likely far too much. I’ve also requested them to run my credit at least 4 times since he asked for my info to run an app. Trying to shop rates this week and I’m expecting to have to call him out on a 1% markup when he finally gets back to me on it. I thought dealers normally jump at the chance to run credit, so I’m not sure why they’re taking so long to run mine.
