Cracked windshield

On top Of whatever it’s going to cost to replace the windshield there goes all the money I spent on ceramic tint for the windshield. Anyone that has this happen to them remember how much it cost to replace? Also I’m assuming I would have to go through the dealer right? 2021 m4c with heads up display. Thanks

Check with your insurance company. Here in Florida the front windshield is completely covered with no deductible.

I haven't replaced mine but I believe full replacement via the dealership will likely run you anywhere from $1,500-$2,000.

I'd just go through insurance if I were you.

Does suck about the tint though. I have mine tinted and recently got a crack as well. I had the glass company come out and do a repair so I'm hoping it holds for a while and I can avoid a full replacement.

Insurance 100%. It does not count as a claim against your policy for rate adjustments.

I had mine replaced last month.
The dealer quoted 2800$ plus labor.
I called my insurance and they replaced it through safelite with OEM windshield and I watched the entire process and I must say they did a very professional job.
Took about 7 days for the windshield to arrive and I had to pay the deductible.

Mine was cracked last August, had it replaced in safelite with OEM windshield covered by insurance.
It has been good afterwards, even able to handle impacts from rock chips.
Only issues was I had to wait for 2 months due to part shortage.

The BMW OEM windshield is $1,5xx. I forget the exact number. There are plenty in stock and there is no issue with shortage. I cracked mine a few weeks ago and the product was overnighted and arrived to the install place the next day.

Would the insurance company cover the tint also? I had a fender bender years ago and they covered the damage and also the PPF that was protecting it.

That sucks! I have been noticing quite a few rock chips on mine. Each wash gives me agony.

They will cover the tint if you have a doctor's note.

I have a cracked windshield as well and need a replacement. 22 M4C Drive. I called a glass company and they didn't have M4 listed as a model. Is the windshield the same as a 4 Series?

Yes. I just went through this whole process a few weeks ago. If you have a decent insurance company they should pay for the replaced (less any deductible) plus any aftermarket installations (e.g., tint, ceramic coating, etc. ). I have USAA for what it's worth.

Yup. USAA is the best!

Go through insurance & perhaps safelite to replace it. Dealerships outsorce on windshield replacements & mark up $$

I would request to have them cover the tint on the windshield as well, should just need to supply a receipt for the work done.

I haven't had to replace my windshield, yet, because I have STek DynoFlex on the outside. It's saved me a few times. There are some good size nicks in the PPF, where it probably would have been a good chip, or even a crack. $600 for the STek. Only $100 more than my deductible to make sure I get to keep my original windshield.

Check this video.

I had a bad experience with SL when they replaced my windshield earlier this year.

The mobile tech said my 2021 was too new, and he didn't have the software to re-calibrate. He also managed to blow out a fuse on the ConnectedDrive camera after the new glass went in.

I know others have had good luck with SL, but I dealt with some real tossers — esp. at their local office.

In the end, my insurance covered the cost for local dealership to re-calibrate everything.

I believe that about the new software, blowing a fuse was just careless.

The best spot to go will be the dealership everytime, even though the outsource, they have the tools to do it 100% right everytime. These new vehicles have a lot of modules/sensors that all need to be on same page to function correctly.

Alfredo's Auto Glass Repair in Corona. He is a genius. He will order the BMW OEM Glass. He even has a mobile service.

I went to have my 190k mile pitted windshield replaced on my E9X M3 during the first month of the pandemic. 90 miles each way to Corona for me. Well worth it. I don't think the HUD is an issue. Something about the rain sensor in the rear view mirror or safety sensor (Subaru's).

Anyone who has a BMW ///M car in LA...Alfredo is your man for windshield repair and replacement. Super professional and thorough with any car.

Recommend that you get ClearPlex installed on the outside of the windshield if this ///M car is your baby. LA/CA Freeways are brutal on windshields.

Get the internal ceramic tint done first and then add the ClearPlex. This will allow your tint to cure properly first. Then add the ceramic coating over the ClearPlex months later.

Cheers

I haven’t had to replace a windshield on any of my previous or current M3’s but my wife’s X3M40i’s have had three replaced by SL.
The first time the guy came out with a non-BMW windshield. He asked why I hadn’t told them I only wanted a BMW part. I said the thought had never occurred to me and I didn’t know if the insurance would cover the much more expensive BMW part. He said he was sure they would and told me to call them. I did, while he waited. When they said no problem, the guy said he would go and get the BMW part and come back. He didn’t make it back that day but was back the following morning. What great service! (I tipped him generously).
Since then when I have called I have told SL that I want a BMW part and have had absolutely no issues. My wife’s car has all the tech including HUD and we have had no problems after any of the replacements.

Add another to the list of cracked windshields. Driving my 2023 M3 home after work today when a rock hit the windshield and seconds later there was a crack running from the driver’s side A-pillar to the far edge of the heads up display. Not even 800 miles on it yet. I filed a claim with my insurance ($500 deductible for a windshield replacement) and Safelite is scheduled to come check it out on Monday. Crossing my fingers that there are no issues after it’s replaced.
