Gapping Spark Plugs for m3
Hey,
I've heard of the term gapping spark plug, but what exactly is this and how does it benefit the car. Is it good to do even if the cars stock?

It's for tuned cars.
As far as I understand it if your adding more boost you would increase the spark plug gap which increases the area exposed to air and fuel I'm not an expert by any means but I believe that is the basic science behind it I personally won't be messing with mine any time soon, definitely not on a stock car. I think you would look to do this type of thing in a 'stage 2 or 3' tune when your adding bigger fuel injectors etc |

Gapping the spark plug is a term for setting the gap between the electrodes on the spark plug.
When you purchase new plugs you want to make sure they’re set to the manufacturers specifications for optimal performance on an unmodified car. On a tuned car it’s best to work with the tuner to determine if changing the gap will result in better performance or changing to a different heat range plug (or both) would yield better results. There is no one size fits all description on what to do with your plugs other than follow the manufacturers spec for a stock car and follow the tuner recommendations for a tuned car. |

It should also be noted that not all plugs should be adjusted. Some have fancy materials, coatings, and geometries that will be damaged by this process. It's easier to buy the right gap.

Why bump a post that’s been dead for a year?
