Intake Query

Hi All
I am thinking of getting an intake for my G82 but on my old F82 with the S55 engine any aftermarket intake made the car run poorly. What's the view from you guys that have fitted an intake to the S58 platform does the car behave normally?

S55 was particularly bad on cold start and partially warm start. I tried multiple intakes and it just didn't seem to like them so settled on drop in filters in the end.

I want more noise out of my G82 but not if it runs poorly !
I under stand performance gains will be little to none.

Because we don’t have MAFs in the intakes like the S55 had I’ve seen few issues. I currently run shorty ARM silicone intakes and have no issues with idle quality.

I like the way the Armaspeed looks but I only like it without the covers. I heard without the covers that they pull in more heat tho and that could raise IAT's. Unless I am incorrect.

i recommend you keep your stock intake and do BMC filters , since there is no really gains from aftermarket’s one , that will i do with my car as well

I have them without the covers and like the look better. There has been a ton of information about the heat soak and it’s so inconclusive. I didn’t notice any performance issues when I installed them. I fully knew when I purchased them that there wouldn’t be much performance gain but man they sound awesome.

no issues with this platform

The loudest intake is the front mount, that would be the loudest to people outside of the car.

to the driver, the loudest will be the regular intake with no box. but i recommend you get an option with a heatshield

Armaspeed here - sounds amazing. Dont have the covers as it doesn't fit when CSL Brace is installed. Mine is loud, likely as loud as front mount, if not louder drivers perspective, due to having huge vents in the CF hood right where the filters are.
Heat soak - bah - these water cooled setups doesn't matter.
Power loss - fake news (friend of a friend of a friend and their friends bs stories)
power gain - negligible.

Arma speed and MAD use carbon intakes that are sealed but with holes in the CF to provide the best of all worlds. You get the coolest temps because of the box, loud intake because of the gaps and the carbon finish.

LOL MAD for example is using a closed intake but with gaps in the carbon so it still produces the loudest possible sound

this is their first design so the gaps are not there , but in the new design that was just released it will have openings for more sound. Just waiting on MAD to update the pictures on the website

I think maybe you’re miscommunication what you’re seeing. There’s no holes in the actual intakes from any of these companies in terms of post filter. That would defeat the purpose. The gaps (in the MAD boxes) or the top openings and gaps for the Armaspeed, do obviously let some sound out, but that’s expected for some sound to escape. Even the stock boxes are open at the front pickup point. Maybe that’s what you meant to describe.

Oh, weird that they decided to open up the box for that. Unless there was a restriction in flow because it was closed, which I doubt since it retains the stock bottoms, that’s just more underhood air to go in.

We went over all of this in our thread.

+1 for the BMC drop in and remove those charcoal filters. Works great, zero complaints.

BMC is an excellent choice if you are not looking for a sound upgrade.

If want more sound then you need an actual intake

+1. A set of BMC filters is all you need.

I disagree. In my opinion I think the sound marginally increases with just the removal of the charcoal filters. The increased flow of the BMC filters gives it a bit more. In total its a noticable increase.

That being said I do agree that for a significant sound increase an actual intake is needed.
