The valves open depending on speed. At WOT it should open all the way.

I would advise against it. Get yourself the Dahler or Dinan. These guys are obviously cutting cost when making these. How hard is it to waterproof these things. I’ve never seen failure rate this high on any product.

thanks. Changed my mind on my exhaust so I'm not going to install an aftermarket valve controller but if I were it'd likely be a dahler. Agree, these controllers appear to be poorly designed and or manufactured.

Stock flaps never open all of the way. And even at their max, they don't stay there for more than a second or maybe two. Before I wired my flaps fully opened, I did an extensive bit of research on this--along with another forum member.

Finally fixed the VSC-2 issue. It should have came from the factory like this. I extended the wires by 3.5 feet so I can mount it in a different location. I mounted the VSC in this cubby area behind the rear wheel using velcro and tucked all the wires. Hopefully this will keep it away from all the elements, especially rain/water.

mike@x-ph.com Maybe you can suggest this idea to CG-Precision to extend their cable length.

Just want to share my experience with the controller. I’ve used the VSC controller on my past two F82’s for years and all worked flawlessly. Both were mounted to the valves and I had zero issues. I tracked the car frequently and when I removed the controller the box was partially melted from the excessive heat. It still worked.
I probably should have kept the old units instead of selling them. I ordered a new one for each car.
When I installed the controller on the G80, I placed it on the valve and it failed within 5 months. I’ll spare the drama, but I will say it took three or so months with many emails and calls between the manufacturer and the company to have another unit delivered.
I had the new unit installed by a BMW service technician. We looked for a place to install it and decided to remove one of the nuts for the heat shield and place it there. The nut has to be changed/modified to do this. There have been posts about removing a chassis bolt on the body and the tech did not think that was a good idea.
So far it has been working flawlessly for two months. I probably should have kept the older units since they seem to have been made with better parts before the pandemic.

I'll certainly share this with them; please test it and let us know how it goes.

And thank you for taking the time and working on it.

It’s working flawlessly. I haven’t driven it in the rain yet, but so far no complaints. The extra cable length gives more flexibility where to place it. That’s how the Dahler units are.

I coated the whole controller and round the cable grommets with silicon sealant, going good so far for 4 months and counting.
Mounted on the valve actuator.

Seems like they need to start doing more quality control before sending these units out. I do recall mines came with some kind of gel bag to add to but it didn’t specify where this needed to be applied.

That was the dielectric grease to be applied at the connections. Does not seem to be the failure as the water intrusion appears to gravitate to the control box itself.

I’ve had mine on for two days and it has failed already as well. Even with the follow the mounting instructions.

Was it raining during the two days it was installed?

After carefully monitoring the VSC-2 situation and trying different solutions to remedy the issues, we have added a disclaimer on our website warning customers from using this controller with G8x models.

If the customer is aware of the risk and is still willing to get the controller, they can still get it from us if they agree with our terms and conditions.

Please note:

1-this is one of our best-selling products; we rarely have any issues with it outside of the G8x platform.

2-This controller works flawlessly on many G8x cars, including my own. But the failure rate is higher than accepted by XPH.

Here is the disclaimer added to the website; we also added a box that the customer must check to ensure they read the disclaimer.

BMW G8X DISCLAIMER: The VSC-2 is experiencing a higher-than-usual failure rate with the BMW G8x M3 & M4. We do not recommend getting this controller for this car. If you decide to do so, please note that no return or exchange from Extreme Power House will be allowed.
If the controller fails, you must work with CG directly on all exchange or warranty requests. Extreme Power House will offer no refund.

I'm surprised people have been having issues. I've been running mine for well over 6++ months with no issues.

Only thing I could think of is how people are installing these, location etc. I'm not sure but I haven't had problems

Received mine two weeks ago and have had it installed since last week. Very easy to install and operate.

Questions:

1. Does the engine need to be running for the flaps to move?
2. Can it change on the fly whilst driving?

Reason I ask is that I am getting mixed results. It seems to work perfectly when the car is first started but if I try to change the settings mid drive it's not always responsive.

And an update - after trying to get it to work at all after two hours and checking everything, it has totally failed.

Two short 10min drives in the dry and one in light rain and its dead.

CG Precision, get your fucking shit together!
