What made you settle on a G8x M3/M4?
Hi all -
I wanted to chime in here and get some ideas from other M3/M4 owners to see why you settled on the G8x? The previous gen M cars were always in the sweet spot imo in terms of pricing. That 60k - 70k range, kind of what the F87 M2C was at is what I have always envisioned the M3 at in terms of price. A well optioned new M3/M4 shoots up to the mid/upper 80s and in some cases all the way up to 100k if fully optioned. At that price, there are many options available from Cayman S, CTV5 Blackwing, new vette, etc... So, I am curious, what made you pick the M3 or M4 over any of the cars in similar price ranges? |

I was looking at high end cars like R8, AMG GTR, 911 turbo and 3rs, etc… prices are so ridiculous on them versus where the market was 2 years ago I shifted to something brand new. Then I looked at a C8, Gt500, and the M. The M was the only one I could get a deal on. Made my decision easy.
I've owned Vipers, Vettes, 911's, RS's, Hellcats, etc…. I'm not paying over sticker for anything and or 20/30k over for used. I think this car will check most boxes. Looks good IMO (striking) , handles well, good stock power, and will be easily modified to make big power. My .02

To find the next sporty vehicle with a manual transmission would be to jump to a Porsche, and I wasn't ready to throw that kind of cash just yet.
A base G8x with some essential package/options was right around $80k and I don't think that's a bad sticker price for a car this good. 2 options I'd probably get if I were to order again would be the CF buckets and carbon ceramic brakes. Both of which aren't exactly cheap though lol. |

I am the same way, no way in hell will I pay over sticker for anything. I'm waiting for my allocation spot (put my deposit) but I went in on the YouTube rabbit hole and started to realize that there are A LOT of options given the price point and wanted to see why others chose the M3 over anything else. I've never driven a G80 yet, but from the reviews it seems the best bang for your buck. |

I missed out on the F80 due to a timing thing. Owned a new VW campervan (California) which due to COVID i ended up getting 100% of cost back after 18mnths use after which I eas bored and the G8x was waiting for me.
Brother in law at BMW sorted me out my dream motor, a M3C in TR and that was that. |

An M3 was the only car on the list for me this time around.

Easy choice for me.
Need at least 4 seats with the kid. Wanted a convertible this time. That basically limited me to the G83 or a 911 variant. C63 is becoming too dated and not keen on the rumors of a 4cylinder for the next gen. M8 and E53 would be too big for my liking (not to mention the power sacrifice with the MB since there is no E63 vert) Went with the G83 due to size/actual usable space vs the 911 and cost. My next car may eventually be a 911 but for now will stay with BMW.

Wanted a C8 originally. Almost all dealers said 12-18 months wait.
Found a 2020 widebody charger hellcat in a 2nd spec choice of what i would want. But theft for those cars are high in my area. I don't have a garage but i do have a gated driveway. I still didn't feel safe. So i passed. Good deal too. Started to look at M cars. Since i started to like BMW's around 2015 or so. Before then i hated BMW lol. Debated on the M340I or the M2. Once i said go big or go home decided on the M3 or M4 competition (i only wanted auto). Saw the M4, didn't like the looks. Went with the M3 competition. No kids. Only mess with tinder girls. Current girl loves the car. ZERO regrets. Awesome car. |

I initially wanted a M5 and although I liked M3's I always thought they were lacking in the interior and I did not want DCT. I started following the new M340i and almost got one until the M3 came out and I fell in love with the design and it was coming with the ZF8. 80k was my budget and it was stupid to pay that for a used M5. I checked off two things on my bucket list, a M car and a new BMW.

I was shopping for a 4 door family car that was fast. Initially was looking at the F80 second hand but I thought the second hand prices were ridiculous given the 2015 tech and being out of warranty so figured the G80 was better bang for buck. Love it!

I was going to go with a CT5V Blackwing but could not find an allocation. The M3 has always been a bucket list car and when I saw the G80 Im glad I couldn't find the CT5V.

The 4 series is the only real option at the price point (m440i and M4). Would have loved to consider a 911 Cabriolet but didn't want to reach that car. M4 was already C8 would have been the choice for a 2 seater.

I was able to sell my M2 for more than I bought it for. While I love the platform of the F87, the tune killing the top end really bothered me.
I figured that if I could get another car, drive it for 4-6 months and buy an M5 or 911 that would be cool.

Next step up for me would be 911 C4S, but that's $125k MSRP specced the way I would have wanted it. Then there's the wait (a year?). M4Cx is 95% of the car for 70% of the price (roughly).
Next step down would be M340i or M440i (xDrive). I came thissss close to assuming a lease on a fully loaded, Dravit Grey over Cognac M340i xDrive. Car was perfect, but the dealer robbed the guy blind with F&I add-ons. The figures made his lease financial kryptonite. Before I'd step up to an M5 Comp, I'd seriously look at an RS6 Avant. Just as capable, more practical, and oh so cool looking. Again, long wait time ... |

I had a 911 S as second car. It killed my back. I have kids and the second row was never comfortable for them. Before the 911 had a Boxter S. We had fun with the top down but I always found the Boxter douchey and two seats is a pain with kids.
My daily driver is an X5 M50i. It’s the best car over ever owned. I love it. But I’ve been missing not having a real sports car. So a four seater performance convertible that’s not totally douchey and wouldn’t break my back had been in the back of my mind. I’ve also always wanted an M car after seeing my uncle’s M5 back in the day. Then I saw the Kylami interior at my dealer and it was all over. I have a thing for orange. This coincided with them getting an allocation while we were discussing the car. Trigger pulled.

In terms of class.
The new Merc C63 (if it would still be called that) isn't out yet. And even how much I LOVE that current V8 I can't justify getting it. Audi RS5 sportback is still a serious 2nd option for me but doesn't quite hit the mark for me in terms of performance. The dramatic upgrade in terms of performance and technology from previous Gen M4 to this Gen is pretty great. So for me it's a no brainer. Also I tried out Porsche. Lol a little too expensive for my taste. My 2022 M4 Comp XDrive seem literally just right for me in terms of timing, pricing, features, and performance. |

I have always been a big fan of the M3s since the E46 days. During that time I was in high-school, couldn't afford it. Then fell in love with the E92 M3, again couldn't afford. Finally I was set on buying the F80 M3, at that time I had no kids and was newly married. Wife wanted a house, ended up having 2 kids and my reality of owning an M3 became into a dream. I told myself, when the next gen M3 comes out I will definitely buy it. Now here I am, with a G80 M3 parked in my garage. I did cross shop the M3 with the C63 and RS5, but they seem to be getting old. I'm very happy with my purchase and love driving this thing.

Peer pressure from my Mom and spite, lol. I was sort of hell bent on getting a 2022 RS5 from a 2018 S5. My mom really wanted me to go with BMW this time around and went to dealership she got her X3 from. The sales guy there didn't take me seriously at all figuring I was to young to be able to afford an M car that I wanted to test out. So next day I went to my local dealer with base M3 to check out and after some convincing on my Mom part I pulled the trigger and put a deposit down for a custom order. Currently build week 4
