Replacing my F80 M3 CS with a G82 M4 Competition X-Drive
I hated the grill. There I said it. My F80 M3 CS lease was ending soon, and I was ready to move on from the M3/4. The G80 is ugly and heavy and has an automatic for god-sake. Maybe a Cayman GT4? C8 Corvette? I wasn't sure. But all those damn reviews. The later ones, the ones that didn't make such a big fuss about the grill and focused on how it drove. They loved the G8X?! Then I rewatched those old reviews that hated the grill, and I noticed something. In between all the grill hate, most of those reviews were actually saying good things, I had just never realized because I kept hearing "grill, grill grill"!
Then it happened. I started to not mind the grill. Then I started to actually like it. Now I'm completely pigging out on humble pie, because I fell in love with the big stupid pig nosed grill. It's big, it's in your face, it looks nothing like any other BMW. No, it's not a traditional M3/4, but maybe that's what I like about it. Ok. Fine. I guess I want the M4 now. Happy? So, about 2 months ago I was lucky enough to get an allocation. I ordered it, got an immediate build date, and off it went into production first week of December! I have to say, this was my first time speccing and ordering a car.l and I am not used to waiting two months for my car to be built and shipped. I have always been a "look for the car that's been sitting on the lot, make a deal, and drive it home" type of buyer/leaser. Given the bonkers state of the car market, that just wasn't possible, so might as well just build one! With that said, it's fun to be able to check the status of my build every so often. Okay, every day. Or every hour. 2022 M4 Competition X-Drive Alpine White N/C Fiona Red/Black Full Merino Leather Executive Package Remote Engine Start Heated Steering Wheel Power tailgate Head-up Display Gesture Control 19"/20" M Double-spoke bi-color wheels, style 826M, w/perf non Front ventilated seats Carbon Fiber trim Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility STEPTRONIC automatic transmission M Drive Professional M Compound Brakes with Red Calipers M Shadowline Lights M Carbon Exterior Package M Performance Carbon Fiber Flow Through Spoiler (disclaimer: these photos gave been altered to protect those who are sensitive to large wheel gap) As of today, the car is still at the port of entrance, about an hour away, torturing me slowly as I await a car carrier to bring it to my dealer. I don't want to jinx myself and say that I should have it soon, so I will say that it will be here sometime between now and the end of time. In the meantime, I'd like to say farewell to my F80 M3 CS and honor my first M car, my 2016 M3. You served me well old friends: UPDATE: The M4 arrived a few days ago! Here are the first real pics!

I'm in the same boat as you (minus the CS, just the regular Competition). Couldn't stand the new look like many others, then it started slowly growing on me, and then I drove a friend's M3Cx and was hooked immediately. Spent a few months looking around for an allocation and saw someone on the forums with a connection at a dealership in my area. I was added to the waitlist in December with the possibility of getting an allocation in February. Got notified by said member last week that someone at the dealer backed out of their allocation and the order could still be modified. Order updated/submitted on Thursday, paperwork signed on Friday, and BMW moved the status to 112 while I was at the dealer. No clue what build week I'll get assigned or how long it'll take but I'm along for the ride either way, and just as excited as you

I'm coming from a highly modded M2C which I tracked and looked and drove great. I told myself when the G8X came out that I love the M2C too much to make the switch especially with way the new front looked.
Then I saw the G8x in person and test drove it…

I'm curious. How did you add the M Performance Carbon Fiber Flow Through Spoiler? I don't see that as an option.
I did the same exact thing. Got rid of my Alpine White F80 for a G82. Waiting on an allocation.... |

Same for me. I hated the G8X. Then I bought one off the lot. And fell in love. Then ordered my own spec and now I wait

You are correct. For the 2022 it's not on the option list nor is in the list for port installed options. It's not even in the shopbmw website. My CA had to call the port directly and have them add it. They couldn't do it through their usual means. Just give your CA the part # for the 2021 M4 and have them call it in.

On the shopbmwusa site there are no aero options for the 2022 M4 Competition X-Drive. Strangely enough, there are plenty of options for the 2021 M4, which makes no sense since they are the same car.

Yeah I hesitated at first. Then I saw it for $2900 on IND and Bimmerword. I figured I would have to drill and then have someone take off the deck spoiler... might as well have BMW do it the right way in case it gets messed up. Plus if it's a lease, you're only paying the depreciation, not the full cost of the wing. 57% locked in residual for December. I still haven't decided if I'm buying or leasing, but leaning on leasing.

I never really paid attention to the reviews to be honest. I want to know how the car drives, not what a bunch of randoms that don't even own the car think about designs.
Personally, I still don't find the car "attractive" per se, but they are aggressive and very color dependent. These G generation cars just do not photograph well at all, they must be seen in person. Having said that, I had the chance to test drive a Comp with bucket seats and the first time I took a turn aggressively, I can tell how far they've come since the F80. Between the crazy grip, turn in and bucket seats, I was very impressed. Did you consider the G80 since it seems like you always had sedans before?

No I did not consider the G80, specifically because I've had 2 M3's already. I was already on the fence about going G8X anyway because I wanted something totally different. Getting a Coupe X-Drive was my way of sticking with the M3/4 but hopefully deviating enough from my past 2 M cars.
