It's not just weight gain. There is ZERO mention about whether the center of gravity was lowered to provide more visceral driving experience. All I see instead is how much carbon fiber design parts are available so that you can make a JDM ricer out of M3/4.
Agreed, but all (most) of the added weight is on the bottom of the car.

I thought the torque would be identical between core/competition, seems like they are trying to differentiate the model rungs even further. This is a huge bummer IMO, I was fine with a 30hp deficit to avoid the competition suspension, but that much of a torque deficit is hard to swallow.

I am just disappointed. Grill/ exterior design aside, let's look at how backwards (at least on paper) they went:

At least 300lb weight delta between G80 M3RWD and F80 M3,
400 lower rpm,

Only 406 tq in base model, same as F80. G80 comp get 476 tq, why? All other M models have same torque numbers between comp and base versions...

What is that bump in the middle of lower cushion in carbon seats?

It's like apple, just an "S" version of last years model, it is not a huge jump in most areas besides AWD which won't be available for another year

You know the performance is going to be there. BMW numbers are always conservative. This thing, divisive as the grille may be, will no doubt easily outperform all variants of the F8x. Just look at how much better the G20 M340i is compared to the F30.

My 2015 RS5 was just as heavy and was a hoot to drive. (The current RS5 is also tipping the scales at 4k lbs.)

Hopefully BMW pulls the same magic they did with the M8 and M5 making it seem a bit lighter when you throw it around.

I was surprised at M Track day at Monticello how they both drove on the track. You could definitely feel the extra weight, but they weren't cumbersome. The upside is you can now use it as a daily for East Coast winters.

At times the front resembles a semi truck.

Other times two coffins.

And other times angry birds.

Where is everyone getting a 500 lb weight gain? I get hating on this but the e92 and f82 weigh 3650 lb.

Now that I've seen it with no camouflage it's pretty much the same thing. Great body, especially the rear, but the face!

Waiting to see if they managed to not mess up the next M2.

Regarding the lack of DCT, and the 8-speed auto...

Remember that the M235iR race cars come with the ZF 8-speed auto trans, just tweaked for racing. And you can believe that those M235iRs are driven a lot harder in races than you're ever going to do on street or track with a G8x.

Just sayin...I'm still an MT driver at heart...and just got Antique plates for my '95 E36 M3, so I won't be selling it...ever.

M235Rs have a modified version of ZF8 with torque converter removed. Racers complained about slower shifts which may be why they discontinued and moved to M2 CS racing.

The grille is super extra, as is the front bumper styling, so that gives me pause, but the hood cuts are a nice touch.

The M performance parts are laughable. Will have to see it in the flesh - but if manual is a deal breaker for you, there aren't a whole lot of options out there.
Not surprising tho... F80 > F82. E90 > E92. Its like tradition.

One other aspect I struggle to understand is why rev limiter is exactly the same for 6MT as G8x. Surely they could have raised to 7500 rpm or higher as the engine is supposedly capable of higher rpm? Bottleneck at its finest.

My F80 6MT was 3580 I think on scales. My E90 6MT was actually more at 3700ish.

There is a thread with weights and pictures in the F80 section.

And that radar sensor in the grille of the green M3, not in the center! a perfectionist's nightmare. So glad I didn't wait for this and got an F90. Might be the last good looking BMW.

To be fair, you should put the F8X Competition pack DCT 0-60mph numbers for a proper comparison

Jesus Christ it gained 400 lbs?!?!? WTF BMW?!?!? Sticking to Porsche or if I ever buy an M3 again it'll be an E46 (would be my 6th) or E92.

Im getting a Civic Type R vibe when you match the over designed front with the crazy seat designs shown in the pictures.

Definitely need to see it in person.
