I use to work at a dealership back in the day. Let me tell ya', those boys would lay down the hamma' on the new models comin' in off the trucks. We use to give em' the ol' Italian tune up if ya know what I'm sayin'

Let's just say those first 10-20 miles are a real cherry if ya know what I mean ! We use to say, if somethin' doesn't break on the Italian tune up, then the rest are all easy miles!

I don’t know if it is still the case with current cars, but on older BMW’s there was a function to reset the odometer back to zero. It could only be done once, and with a maximum of 100km on the odometer. Needed dealer software etc.

So most of us seem to have 10-15 miles on delivery. What do those miles consist of? I know they do some driving at the factory, not sure how that amounts to, then out to the train, off the train, on and off the ship, on and off of the delivery truck and then to its final place waiting for you.

about 20 miles (33km to be exact) on mine ... suspect its just all the transit to/from trainyards and shipping docks, plus whatever factory driving.

really not much to worry given in transit the car is in limp mode with rev limiter

You guys and gals need to remember that the car is driven out of the factory onto a train or other transport... then it's driven around on the docks and into the boat, which has like 12 levels on it, then driven off the boat to the VDC parking area, then processed, then driven onto a truck, then driven off of that and parked at the dealer, then driven by the mechanic who takes it out of transport mode and likely takes it for a brief spin to make sure that everything works, then the washboy takes off the plastic and preps it and then the sales guy/gal takes it out to fill it with gas.

15 miles on my car.

And yes, don't ignore what I wrote above: transport mode. These cars are limited by the factory to not do more than 2K RPM (or whatever it is) and no A/C, no radio, windows disabled, etc. so that they can't get a tune up or have some guy smoke a jay while he's waiting for his turn.

the lowest I've ever seen an odometer was 1 mile, generally speaking the need to drive the cars around the factory (transport ship too) so you'll never see 0. I think less than 5 miles is incredibly rare.

The last bmw I purchased was my 335is, and it had 12 miles at the dealer. Anything above that with PCD delivery in my head is difficult to justify.

Some punks at the dealer beating the shit out of them. Just like 99 percent on this forum would do if they were in those kids shoes. LOL. No different than our wives or girlfriends. Most were rode a bunch of times and had miles. So, these cars are just another thing that got abused before we get them. LOL

+1, Wild Blue found that some cars are randomly selected for additional QA as well. His X7 (built in Spartanburg with a PCD around the corner) didn't have all the logistical miles as you describe, but still ended up with 11 miles.

I talked to my dealer today and he said without me even asking that they put 1 mile on the car so far and it's on a lift now getting inspected. He says it has a total of 9 miles on it. I guess that will be something to look at when I pick it up. I would expect maybe a slight increase from that but anything excessive would get a why so many miles since I talked with you last? I don't expect any issues though.

I bought 3 BMW's so far, two as custom orders(from Germany), latest one as in-transit(from Mexico).

All 3 cars arrived with 5 miles while rolling off the truck, and delivered to me around 9-10 miles.

This was the X7 on pickup day. Fewest miles of any new car I've had.

My 5 series was ordered from the factory. When I picked it up at the dealership, it had 7 miles on it.

Some of the mileage is dependent on how far the gas station is from the dealer to fill the car up. That alone can add 3 miles or so. Assume another 3-5 for a test drive, and having around 8-12 seems reasonable. I've seen "new" cars with over 200 miles on them. To me, having no idea--but a hunch, as to how those miles were put on a performance car, the car is used. There was a ZR1 at the dealer when I bought my '18 Stingray. It had 46 miles on it. I'm "sure" those were only careful, break in miles....

My miles are still going up and it's been at 10% fuel the whole time. Wouldn't be surprised to see 50 miles by the time I get it next Friday 😡
