More substance soon, Chris Harris has one right now but says there's an embargo for a few more days. We'll see an eruption of content and reviews shortly, hang in there...

I wonder if Harris praises the car - controversial and already tired Grille-Gate aside - will his nut huggers who consider his word/perspective gospel do an about-face. I guess we'll soon see.

It seems that the general consensus on the seats is

Track: carbon

Young and agile: carbon

Want the super cool look and don't care about hassle of in/out: carbon

Daily driver and not in one of the above categories: regular

Want ease of ingress/egress: regular

Don't want to spend the money: Regular

Old: regular

Me, I fall in the daily driver, never going to track it, want to be able to get in and out easy and I suppose technically middle aged (really, am I? ) although agile, the CF look cool, but I don't want the hassle or expense: Regular

Hi,

some weeks ago I had also the opportunity to do a real life test with the CF seats. And my choose was to go with the standard M seats due to the fact that it might be OK to get into the CF seats, but getting out of them at home in the garage where the door does not open wide will stress me every day to not damage the door. Think about the supermarket, the office parking etc where wou have another car next to yours and you can't open the driver's door wide enough to get out of the CF seats.

I think that sliding over them sideways every day will also damage the leader.

In my opinion, the CF seats are not the first choice for a daily driver. If you want to take the car to the circuit on every weekend, then the CF seats are a serious option. Otherwise just impractical in everyday life.

The carbon seats would be the wrong choice for anyone driving the car more than ~5k miles a year. The issue isn't the comfort while in the seat as much as the pain (literally and figuratively) it is to get in and out of them.

It's definitely super cool BMW offers them for the most hardcore owners though.

Based on the photo the regular M seat is much wider than CF one where the F80 is look more like the CF seat slim with cut out. My guess the CF is more comfy when compare with F80 comp seat, I picked up my F80 from LA and drove back to Bay Area and it's pretty comfy on a long trip.

What does the phrase "general peasants in the wild" mean?
It refers to people who don't spend years (combined) of their life on Bimmerpost.

I have yet to sit in either variant of the G8x seats, but the F80 seats being in the middle sounds about right just based on looks. Seems like BMW did listen to enthusiasts at least by having different seat offerings, even if the two offerings may be considered on opposite ends of the spectrum when compared to the F8x seats. My only real gripe with the F8x seats was the integrated headrest that did not allow for harness use if a driver wanted to use one - like in previous generations. That would have made the F80 seats almost perfect, IMHO.

So instead of a "compromise" seat this time around (i.e. a F8x seat design with harness pass through holes), BMW decided to offer more dedicated seat options to fit function - comfort or performance. I guess a good analogy would be winter or summer tires vs all-season tires... You can't please everyone, but I am glad we (potential G8x M3/M4 owners) at least have a choice for a more specialized purpose regarding the seats in this car.

Opinions are like you know what - we all have them. And for me, bucket seats all the way (as long as I can stay in shape )....

Why are you getting offended? It’s his opinion and not once did he sneer at anyone who doesn’t want them. Initially I didn’t want them but I changed my mind before my build went forward.

IMHO these seats in an M5 Comp CS or whatever they come in ,in a set of four LOOK AWESOME , just how one envisions extreme high speed seating for four to look. Should I ever have an opportunity to try them, I'll advise on comfort.

I can only add that a set of top of line standard seats in a 2014 640i convertible I had became uncomfortable..but at 6' 230# perhaps I expected to much

I think he did that for comparison. Because X3m seats are the base g80 seats if you don't check the carbon bucket option.

similar discussions go on endlessly on Rennlist
CF buckets vs regular and the buckets fans always act like the regular seats are POS.
I think we should be happy that BMW is offering both options
I can predict the next topic related to the seats : will the regular seats affect my resale value ???? so people start buying the buckets for resale purpose only
