2021 w/out Blind Spot Question
Dealer has a 2021, with all the options except "Without 5AS" That is blind spot monitoring, which BMW gives a $500 credit for. Apparently when the car was built they were having a part shortage. Is it worth taking that car, seeing if i can get a few % off MSRP, or waiting until Aug to order a 2022. The dealer is trying to get an allocation, but at this point I hesitate to get a 2021 in July, with the new ones coming out a month later. My dealer at first said they could order me one, now they are saying they cant trade for an allocation. I would prefer not to get the car in late Oct, and have missed the good weather to drive it. Any input would be useful, thanks in advance.

This is the one option that I would want but wouldn't wait to have if it was the only one missing. There are other options that would be deal breakers for me but this is not it.

Seems if you don't want to wait, leverage this into the negotiation and enjoy your car sooner at a great price! I truly think that the deals being had now (I got 7% off M3 after incentive) are going to be as good or better than what we see for the 12 months (due to shortages and availability). People waiting for a good deal I think will be disappointed.

Mine is missing that same option and I don't notice it. I never find blind spot to be 100% reliable, and it's never saved me from a car I didn't already know was there. There are definitely other options that would have been a deal breaker, and I thought for a moment about this one, but don't regret getting it

I agree with others on here. It is an option that I would want (especially for a car costing this much) however it isn't something that would keep me from purchasing either. It is one of those nice to haves but not a must have. Even with BSM on vehicles I still utilize my mirrors and turn my head to look.

You don't have to wait until August to order. End of Production for MY21 is June. June allocations will be July (MY22) builds. I assume you (and I) will be able to order a MY22 in 3-4 weeks and take delivery in August.

It's not something you will really miss like HUD or better Headlights.
I appreciate it in my Q5 but never missed it in my M2, I find it more useful in a more relaxed car that you could get distracted, no chance I get enough relaxed in an M car to be distracted.

Given how tough it is finding allocations at the moment I wouldn't necessarily bank on that.

I'd want more money off to accept a car without a standard option if I can't wait for the proper build. Is this car otherwise how you want it?

Ok I have actually been in this exact same situation before. Take the car, and check your f*cking blindspot lol.
The year was 2016. I had a 2016MY F80. Part shortage, etc., same story. They didn't even offer me $500, the F80 was so scarce they could have sold the YMB 6MT in 2 days time had I passed. Take delivery in June (ended up being June 22, 2016, a glorious day in history and my first M car) OR wait until a 2017MY and throw snow tires on her immediately? I went with the 2016MY and never looked back. My 2018 CS doesn't have lane departure either. Yet here I am, still here to tell the story.

It's for grandpa when he falls asleep after 7 hours on I-95. As for OP, I was in a similar spot, and I decided to just buy what I could off the lot rather than wait for October.

I really enjoyed blind spot monitoring in a few of my past cars. That combined with blind spot mirror positions made weaving in and out of 405 traffic pretty effortless.
I thought not having it would be a bummer when I bought my M2. But after a few days I didn't miss it |
