Waiting for a base M3 allocation

I ordered a Base M3 manual transmission on April 16. Dealer has no idea when they will have an allocation. Does anyone have a similar story? How long did it take before you got a build number? Should I be expecting delivery in six months? Longer?

Thanks

Welcome to the club. Ordered 3/26/21...no allocation. I'm #1 on my dealership's list but I continue to wait.

Suggest you call a few other dealers and ask if they have an allocation available. Otherwise you may be waiting several months with nothing to show for it.

Allocation is king. No production number, no car.

That's going to depend on when your allocation week is for and when you flip to "scheduled for production" status (112 status).

You can theoretically make changes until then.

I got my order in September, didn't get my allocation until January and could have made changes until April. You may get an allocation with a build 4 weeks from now, or you may get an allocation with a build 12 weeks from now.

I made a change to my interior when I was in 112. I believe 150 (production started) is when you can no longer make adjustments.

I would shop around to try and find an allocation. I believe base allocations are very few and far between at the moment, to the extent I think brokers aren't even taking new clients. No point in having all your eggs in one basket, unless time is on your side and they gave you a killer deal

Theoretically yes but I tried that on my F80 (changed to silverstone interior from black) and it was too late. You want to give a conservative answer to a question like the one G80SWFL asked.

I’ve called 6 bmw dealers within 3 hours from me none have allocation and best deal was 1500 off Msrp which is what I reserved

FWIW I was watching 60 Minutes last night and the CEO of the largest semiconductor manufacturer in the world was talking about the shortage, and he said that he expects that by June they'll be back up to normal production levels and able to address the backlog. He was asked, "would that immediately affect car production?" and he said no, the supply chain for autos was very long, and it would still be quite a while before it all got to the manufacturers.

Which makes sense. The ABS controller (for example) is made by Bosch, but it consists of logic boards made by subcontractors who wait to get all of the semiconductors required to make a batch of them, and then they'll schedule production, and when the batch is complete and goes through QA, then it gets shipped to Germany where Bosch then has to schedule production and make all of their units which they then ship to all of their customers.

Mine should be opening up next week. The 22 POG came out and I adjusted my order slightly. Dealer seemed to think I'll have the car by august/September.

My dealer doesn’t know if I’ll be getting a 21 or 22 just that we are still waiting for allocation feels like it never will get it. I ordered mid april

22 most likely. 22 production starts in July, and if you don't have an allocation yet…

I find this incredibly frustrating. Thankfully I don't "need" the car, but I can't go 5+ months without one.

A little more communication from BMWs side would go a long way.
