Ready to buy, how long is the wait?

So I'm ready to buy an M4, I live in Phoenix. How long roughly until delivery should I assume? Also, I have no special relationship with a dealership so how much should I expect to pay? From what I'm reading I shouldn't count on anything below MSRP. I'll be paying cash.

I have spoken to a dealer, and as of a few days ago they are saying a late July delivery which sounds reasonable to me, but I wanted to throw this out there!

Do they have an allocation? Allocation is king. If they have an allocation then they'll know build week and you can map out pretty accurately what delivery will be. Without an allocation it's much more a guessing game.

Also depends on what you're getting - AWD no chance for July, 6MT is unlikely unless you have an allocation, comp there are more allocations around so more likely.

As I said though, allocations are king, find an allocation and go from there

Which dealership are you working with?

I'm working with Chapman in Chandler and they weren't willing to budge from MSRP even though this is my second BMW from them in two years and fourth one overall.

As already said, the allocation is king and if they don't have an open allocation for you right now then it is hard to count on the July build date and then subsequent delivery date. If they get you slotted in on a May allocation that should mean a July build date but May allocations haven't been released yet to the best of my knowledge (it's only the first). I believe it is typically going to be 8-10 weeks for delivery to the West Coast and trip to AZ after the car has been built.

Buy one off a lot, M4s are plentiful unlike M3s. 185 vs 91 on cars.com, 2 to 1. Bigger discounts on M4s as well.

Yea, Chapman. I'm going to fire off an email tonight and try and nail down an allocation and do the down payment thing. I've already gotten a quote at MSRP, I was wondering if it was worth the hassle of talking to Scottsdale BMW or others, but it doesn't sound like it. They do want to charge a "Document Pre Fee" at $499 and "Accessories" at $684. I'll talk to them about that.

RWD Competition. I'll find out quickly about the allocation. The reason I haven't pulled the trigger already is because I was debating the AWD. But, this is Phoenix, I have another vehicle that's a 4x4 SUV and the reviews seem to be pretty positive about the traction. I'll never track the car. The thought of the AWD version being a slightly faster car is appealing, but in practice it's not going to make a difference to me. But props to the AWD version, it is going be a nice setup!

I've got the same fees on my deal as well. I don't think they'll be willing to take the $499 doc fees away. The $684 in accessories is the window tint and VTR. I don't mind those as that just means I'll have one less thing to do with regards to the tint as they'll get it taken care of during vehicle prep.

You can get discounts. Brokers are offering 8% off M4s if you are willing to take delivery from a Northeast or Midwest dealer. I've negotiated 4.5% off MSRP on an M3 from a dealer in the West. Most are firm at MSRP so if really depends how much you want to haggle.

That was the case with F80s and F82s as well. The temporary disequilibrium cost me about $3,000 over true course of my first F80 lease because everyone wanted the 4 door and was paying through their teeth to get one.

No kidding. I'm 10 days from my PCD and it feels like an eternity. I would need meds if I was suddenly back at the ready to order stage.

Are dealers willing to trade other dealers for one? If I live in Ohio, will a IL dealer give my dealer one or do they generally want to hold on to them?

Sharpe BMW in Grand Rapids MI has been taking and filling out of state orders as far away as CA, if that helps at all. I believe they have an M3 Comp in stock currently

You should be able to get 4-5% off an M4 pretty easily and 7% if you want to push hard. It may not be in PHX though. All comes down to level of effort and how much does $3-4K mean to you.

I disagree. There is little to no inventory around here, and those that have a car want MSRP or better. It's a seller's market.

I got a quote for $1500 over at one of your CA dealerships.
