Charcoal filter?

Do the US G8x cars have charcoal (or OPF) filters like the F8x that should be removed for sound?

Thanks!

Yes. I did this last week. There's a very minor increase in intake sound, but it's barely noticeable

Can anyone confirm whether US card have the particulate filter? I didn't think they are on US spec cars.

They do. I melted the pins with a soldering iron and removed the whole assembly. Intake noise is noticeable.

There are pins? On the f80 you just had to remove it from on top of the actual filter.

I don't see why you would need to melt anything, they are retained by plastic tabs but they pull out easily.

What's the best place to find a tutorial on that? Were you following a tutorial when you did yours?

no, you just need to remove the airbox covers on each side and pull out the charcoal filters.

Pulled them out. Took 5 minutes each side. I don't notice any difference but my wife says I'm deaf anyway.

Is this safe? I suppose they have a function to prevent dust from entering the engine, no? Is this a risk worth the sound? I've heard the result of replacing the mid pipe and that was quite impressive on the G80.

no, the air filter prevents dust from entering the engine. The charcoal filter is for removing hydrocarbons from exiting the engine into the atmosphere and are only installed in US cars to meet emissions requirements, they do not exist on non-US cars. No risk to your car.
