When will the uncrackable ECU be cracked?

The word on the street is this gen cannot be cracked, but where there's a will there's a way.

Looking forward to dynos showing Stage1 93 octane at 600whp like the X3/4M

That's what people said about the early X3/4M, the F80/2, the e90/2...

I know people on the Supra forums who have a build date after the 06/20 cutoff are getting really frustrated that there hasn't been too much success.

I'm guessing it'll get figured out sooner than later.

If they don't crack it, a lot of people will be out of a lot of money. Plenty of vendors rely on M models for sales (Bootmod3 for one). I'm assuming it'll get done within 3 months of the March deliveries

uncrackable lol so true. However it seems like as the gens roll on its getting harder and harder and also taking a lot longer. Didn't it take a few years for the F8x? I can't remember I usually try and stay away from ECU stuff on my cars as I get older and BMW gets stricter.

agreed. My CS is stock engine-wise and will stay that way.

Still though, I enjoy reading about the people pushing the envelope!

Give it time and it will be cracked.

Until then, I'm just going to tweak the suspension and enjoy the power it has.

The F8X M3 was released as a MY2015. ESS posted a tune on 10-13-2014. I didn't dig into other tunes. However, it wasn't years. Unless you mean non M F8X, then I have no idea.

ESS had a plug and play tuner for the F8x early on, I had one. Flash tuning came out much later, initially requiring DME removal for unlocking. OBD flashing took another year or so after that before Freiling users could perform tuning via the OBD port only. Then BMW released a bootloader update to lock them again which to knowledge, still has effect. It's a matter of time and resources, but anything is possible.

I was working with one of the first tuners in the US who gained access into the Bosch ECUs used in the F8x among many other cars. Just looked through my old photos and found the first car to be dyno tuned in the US as far as I know which was my shop's CLA45 AMG on November 7th 2014 and then I believe it was a few weeks later that we started getting into S55 and S63 ECUs and tuning those. If ESS had done an ECU reflash in October 2014 then they would have been before us and it seems possible that they were using the same method that my tuner would have bought from a shared source. I believe their piggyback tuner had been on the market for a while before these reflashes became possible but who can really remember 2014 with any accuracy anymore?

I spoke with Bootmod via their customer service to figure out when it might be available. They were forecasting the 2-3rd week of June (pretty specific!). I am looking for it for my 2021 X3M which replaced my 2018 F80. Wish it would come sooner - not sure I can wait until then!

If the tuners release a crack to quick it shoots them in the foot as bmw will just patch it. Better to wait so you get more cars with the old version on the road.

Andrew, you guys expect to be able to crack this ECU? I expect everything can be cracked, but I also expected this version to be much harder.

There are already flash tunes for the X3/X4M. They are at around 600whp on 93 octane stage 1, which is just incredible.
The power output is just like stock but more of it, so it holds power until redline.

Information came out that the 'new' ECUs past a certain build date were not crackable, even through a bench flash. All the G8X fall into that category.

That's where my concern comes from

This, no way I would tune this car. Unless it is a BMW Performance tune, if it ever comes out.

This would be a great BMW Performance add on. The M engineers basically said its the same motor other than software.
