My son, my wife, as well as my parents all dislike getting into the back of the M2C. With the cost of parking space here in HK, I only want to own 1 car. The M2C isn't really a family car, but I've had fun with it.

I’m pretty sure most drivers won’t use more than 50% of any vehicles capability. Speed limits and traffic control devices prevent this. I’m counting on the depreciation factor when I buy an m3.

I just got out of my M2 because of practicality. Where I live owning/storing 3 cars is just not practical. I went from a CLS63 -> GS-F down to an M2. It was my first coupe in forever. It was fun for 3 years but not being able to take my M2 on 75% of our errands and/or running around with the kid (backseat car seat not fun) was a real killer.

I'm currently looking for a AWD M3 allocation.

The M3 just has presence with the wider fenders, quad exhaust, Alcantara, seats an merino leather. You cant get most of these options in the US. For that reason I want the M3. True I will never use the car to its full potential but I like what I like. I was going to spend over 10k in mods to make a M340i feel more special. I will be one of the posers in my M3 if its the car I purchase later in the year.

So the car will be my daily. I don't care so much about raw power or 0-60 times. I just want a car that handles well and feels connected. I would get an M2 or a base Cayman if I didn't need the practicality. Obviously nobody has driven the G80 yet. But based on previous M3 vs. 340i/335i comparisons, does it make sense to pay a bunch more money for the real M? Is it actually better/more fun as a daily driver?

M3s actually hold their value much better historically. Even E92s are still over 50% of their MSRP if they've been taken care of. F80s still go for... 45-50k for a decent one. The M340 is likely the worse investment. Insurance, gas and tires on the M3 may add up though.

As far as only using 50% on the street, that's bs. Even with fast cars you can still drive the crap out of them on the street.
