So my lease on my F80 competition was coming to an end and I started looking at M5s Competition. Ended up buying brand new GTR Premium.

My M3 was around mid $70s and was offered low $50s a year later. so the M3 depreciated MUCH more

Seems you were unlucky with your M3 or trashed it. I never had an M3 with the dollar depreciation of your P-car.

and it was actually it great shape. but you cant look at the dollar amount; but the percentage. and an M3 definitely has a much higher depreciation curve than the porsche. But then again bmw has a lot more incentives and you can easily get 10% off of a new car..

Appreciating investments is the opposite, percentage is king. You have been taken advantage of, $23k is very close to what I’ve seen over 4 years and 40k miles on my M3s. Brush up on your negotiation skills of purchase price and trade-in. |

With the M3 you also have another $50k available to invest in appreciating assets to further the gap. |

i'll try to keep this simple for you if you own an investment account with a million dollars and then it lost $200k of value. you have lost 20% of your investment if you have a $200k investment account and suddenly it lost $100k of value you have lost 50% of your investment nobody in the financial world deals with straight dollars; its value now back to the cars. a 2018 bmw m3 with a MSRP of around $80k with 12k miles is now worth (according to kbb) $53k (trade in according to kbb). so it lost 33% of it's value a 2018 porsche 911 with an msrp of $105k and 12k miles is now worth $75k (trade in according to kbb) so it lost 28% of its value so it doesnt matter what you think , or how you want to twist it, the bmw depreciates faster. thats a fact. twist the facts however you want to make yourself feel better having said all that these are cars that depreciate quickly. none of these are collector cars. i dont buy what i think will hold value better or will be worth more. i'm blessed to be able to pay cash for my cars and not worry if i lose tens of thousands over a year or two.

But with the P-car you lock in more money and you loose more money. What matters to you, the depreciation rate or the dollars lost? Anyhow I think you just guaranteed that our bickering here will be deleted by the name calling so this will be my last comment on this. |

yes, i've decided at this point that i'm not willing to lose that much money anymore. and thats why i picked up a CPO 911. It's already lost the biggest chunk of it's value and i can probably drive it a year and sell it for 4-5K less than what i paid. The used car market is so crazy right now i can probably sell it for more than i paid for it

Is it the styling and/or the ZF slushbox that you're worried about?

Yeah, I wouldn't be happy about either of those aspect.
The lack of DCT is pretty disappointing and puzzling to me; increase in size is unfortunately a given in this day and age. I would think thrice about getting rid of your CS.

I'll hold on to it for another year, but it will need to be replaced at some point.
