Owner's choice is another balloon product. You pay full value sales tax upfront and own the car but can return to BMW at end of year/mileage term or refinance or buy with no additional tax due. Rates are usually much higher than MFs/financing. No acquisition fee but disposition fee. No gap included.

Went to Global Imports BMW here in Atlanta today to try and get an M4 Comp Convertible built. Talking numbers, they showed me MSRP plus marked up MF of .00151. MSRP was pretty high at about 105k

They initially had some dealer add ons they took off, but refused to budge off max MF. I walked.

Really unfortunate as I was ready to sign for base MF and MSRP.

Months for less then 1800 dollars? Run the numbers again with same money down on a loan through a credit union and my payment is actually lower on the loan then lease on 84 months financing with same down.. this is a sellers market and just sucks right now
Did you eventually get a good deal?

An absolutely bonkers lease quote. I've countered with matching the payoff for my trade, base MF, and removing dealer add ons.

My proposed terms in the calculator here and the terrible lease quote should be attached here.

Did you shop your car online at VROOM, Carvana, etc. to see what they would give you?

I did. We're sitting at quotes of 54-55k, so basically breakeven.

Is that a lease too or a finance? Did you roll in negative equity or get a bad deal on the X5? Or is used car market cooling?

Can anyone provide their exact numbers for an M3 purchased through BMW Select at 0.9% (down payment, balloon payment, including taxes or not, term, etc.)? 60 months seems to make more sense for most people, right?

Unfortunately, the BMW site is down when trying to calculate Select for the M3. I get an error saying "We hit a speed bump. Try again soon" for a few days. So i have no idea what my balloon payment will be for a $75k-ish spec.

No negative equity. It was just a really high spec X5 (86k-ish). I'm thinking I might just wait till the summer to get a new car with the market where it's at.

Ugh I know. It's going to be an expensive next 6 months. To compound that, my authorized dealer surprised me with the chance to buy a two tone Rolex sea dweller for Xmas and I couldn't pass up on it, so another 17.5k down for that.

Best to avoid my financial advisor for a while.

Dang, I've never been a big spender/loan/mortgage guy and haven't had any for 17 years now but maybe I'm missing out?! If giant comet hits earth maybe I should be all leveraged out!

Honestly, and not to get too serious, but COVID has taught me to ease the spending reigns a bit.

Also, the Rolex can easily be re-sold for 5-7k over what I paid if for whatever reason I needed more liquidity.

Though, right now it probably makes more fiscal sense to get the house squared away and re-assess where things stand for the car.

Agree...it is hard to change from accumulation to spending for me! Having said that I did buy a $150K 911 but it wasn't for me so sold and just yearning to spend some $ on an M3.

This is a funny convo. I'm cheap as shit, only a little mortgage debt and quite a bit saved, and I totally envy people that can spend more freely. I talk to those people, and I explain my philosophy, and I can see that they envy my situation. If anyone finds the happy medium between saving and spending, let me know.

As far as deals on cars right now, it's pretty terrible on the buy side. We just sold my wife's GLS back to Mercedes for the exact price we paid for it 14 months earlier. Then I went and paid MSRP + BS add ons for the replacement. It's crazy out there.

I find what works for me is to setup automatic savings and investment plans that leave me feeling like I'm living paycheck to paycheck (albeit at a pretty high spending level) even though I'm saving 40%+ of my income. That way I am able to save a substantial amount of money and spend "freely" within the constraints that the automatic plans create for me. If I do want to spend beyond that, I still can, but there's some pain in taking money out of taxable investment accounts to pay for it.

I'm actually envious of you as well. I definitely make some impulsive purchase decisions as I continue to try and find a balance between saving (across 401k, investments, etc) and spending (cars, watches, food that's not good for me).

Also apologies to anyone if my other comments derailed the thread.

Trying to steer back to the M4, it's likely best (at least for me) to stay clear of the current market. The lease quotes I'm seeing are what the M8 Competition was going for just a couple of years ago and double where the last gen M4 was priced.

We know from a purchase standpoint M cars, and their AMG and RS rivals, depreciate at meteoric levels, so a finance is tough for me to really justify as I don't want to hold the car longer than maybe 4 years max.
