First German comparison (M3 G80 xDrive vs W206 C63 AMG E Performance)
Hi guys,
I recently read this comparison in German AMS magazine. I think it is the first ever comparison of the two in a German publication. As far as specifications are concerned, the new C63, despite being heavier than the M3, has considerably more power and wayyyyyyyy more torque due to its hybrid powertrain. 1020 Nm of torque is megaaaa! According to measurements done by the magazine, C63 and M3 weigh 2133 and 1779 kg respectively. C63 has 680 PS (671 hp) and M3 has 510 PS (503 hp). Power to weight ratios: C63 = 318 PS/tonne M3 = 286 PS/tonne Torque to weight ratios: C63 = 478 Nm/tonne M3 = 365 Nm/tonne I really expected the new C63 to beat the M3 hands down, especially at higher speeds due to its massive torque. However, the following results tell something different. This is manufacturers' specification table: Here are the measured values: It seems that C63 loses power after 200 km/h. M3 is the overall winner of the test with 559 points. C63 comes second with 554 points. |

Don’t know how true this is but it’d be a sensible choice for AMG

That's when its battery is depleted, its good for 10 seconds or so, then you're down to motor only.
$16k extra for a 4cyl+battery and basically just keeps up with the m3... no thanks.

Yeah, 200 liters less than the M3!

I'm indeed disappointed with the new C63. It weighs even more than an old S Class. I miss the good old days when we could buy a brand new W201 190 E 2.3-16! A proper compact and lightweight sports sedan with a nice sounding NA engine derived from Cosworth! |

Embarassing for the "ultimate" AMG. The New M5 will teach MB how a proper hybrid super/sport sedan should be made.

I understand C63 will revert to V8 engine in 2025, they realised what mess they did

I'm afraid but I think BMW will soon ruin M3 and M5 by installing electric motors!
I rather buy a RC model than having to charge my real vehicles! Batteries just add weight and their performance advantage is just a momentary burst of acceleration (similar to NOS). The same thing already happened to AMG GT 63 S E Performance that despite having 843 PS, it was only slightly faster than an M5 Comp. |

Everything about the new C63 is just embarrassing...
Yeah, let's go ahead and get rid of the V8, Sound and pack on a ton of weight... this sounds like something everyone wants... oh and on top of that add an awful tablet dash interior plagued with unreliable electronics. I mean BMW made a few mistakes with the G80 but it is still miles ahead of anything by Benz and Audi at this point...

It’s really sad and embarrassing for AMG. The V8 was the heart and sole of the car and I can’t believe they got rid of it. It’s hard to digest as an ardent AMG fanboy. Atleast they should’ve ditched the name “C63” and called it something else. Anyway, I am glad BMW and M are still making cars for the enthusiasts.
