Base M4 to M5C

After 8-9 months with a 6MT M4 it became clear it wasn't the car for me. I was left feeling that I either needed something more practical and luxurious or less practical and exotic. Either more practical so I would get more use out of a second car during the week when I have an early morning traffic-free and fun drive but a slow commute home that is awful with an MT. Or less practical so weekend-only use would feel truly special. The more practical options under consideration were M5C, RS6 Avant or Taycan Turbo. The less practical were a McLaren GT or a used 570s or 720s. If used 911 GT3s and Turbo Ss weren't so depreciation resistant right now I would have considered one of those as well. In the end, with 3 children at home still and another 5-10 years of commuting in front of me, more practical and luxurious won out and the M5C fits like a glove and very happy with the switch.

I'm really grateful for the time with the M4 and getting back into a manual for the first time since I was a teenager. Definitely great to re-hone that skill in case I want to do Skip Barber in the manual mustangs. At the end of the day it's just not the right car for me and better to get into the right car sooner rather than later. Otherwise you are just eating depreciation for no good reason. I do love the M3/M4 forum. So much great info and stories. Enjoy these cars in good health!

Have fun with the new car!

I’ve had manuals forever. If I ever give up on a manual, it will be for an RS6 Avant - but I would certainly also take an M5C!

I had a 2022 M5 comp and I thought it was extremely boring to drive as well. I now have a Jahre G80 with buckets and it’s such a fun car to drive.
