Another F80 owners take on the G80

Initially, I didn't like the G80. I wasn't sure about the grill from pictures, and I was disappointed that they moved from a DCT to the ZF8.

But I got the chance to test drive a 2022 M3 competition RWD recently and was instantly impressed. The torque increase over my F80 was immediately noticeable as was the handling, overall grip, and braking power.

Add in an interior that is much improved, a surprising appreciation for the ZF8, as well as my personal love for the overall appearance and I wanted to purchase the one I test drove. They wanted 15k over MSRP, so I passed and my hunt for an allocation began. I found one at sticker this week and I'm now at status 111 waiting for my new M3! Really excited to get the new beast after 7 years of owning an F80 as my daily driver.

Had a Silverstone F80 too!

Appreciate your thoughts on the new M3.

Looking forward to getting into a G80 in the not-too-distant future.

Considering your history with F80 and the fact that you tracked it.

Makes me more confident in the G80 if you approved.

Silverstone is such a cool color that shifts in different lighting!

The G80 really is a step up in driving dynamics and refinement from the F80, I doubt you will be dissapointed!

Sadly, no. I have other toys in the garage and don't have room to keep both.

I also noticed my order lists the 50th anniversary M emblems. Does anybody know when the new 50th ann paint colors will become available? I heard March production which is what my car is but I don't see it on the configurator. I'll ask my SA too.

The only thing you’ll be disappointed about is the exhaust. It is neutered and is pretty quiet. My f80 with mpe sounded very good. With my g80, I can barely hear the exhaust.

I went the same route as you (minus the track experience). I was one of the many that didn't like the G80 but it slowly grew on me and then I drove a RWD Competition and was hooked.

I'll be trading in my F80 and I will definitely miss it. It's an event to drive one of these, especially with the DCT. Mine has the MPE as well so I'll know I'll miss the sound as well (even if the S55 sounded pretty terrible lol). But the G80 is honestly a great car and I doubt I'll miss the driving aspect of the F80 after too much time. As for looks though, I think I'll always love the F80 more....it's just such a good looking car, especially with all the M Performance carbon all over it.

My F80 has stock exhaust (non competition and no MPE) and I actually thought the G80 sounded pretty good and not as raspy as my F80. I'll code off the ASD and see how I like it from there, but certainly some of the mid pipe only upgrades could be an option for me as it really sounds good from the videos I have seen.

My SA said the 50th anniversary colors will become available after March so my build will stay Portimao blue as my build week is sitting at last week of March right now. I do like the free 50th emblems I am getting though.

Are the 50th anniversary M emblems included "automatically" on Spring 2022 builds? (I also have a March build date)

They were added automatically at no charge on mine. Apparently, in other markets like Germany they are an additional cost option.

F8X was a very reliable car. I had 0 issues during 85,000 miles of ownership in 4 years.

G80 is awesome. Good choice OP.
