Almost clicked the carbon bucket button today...but didn't

Hey all, currently have an M4 Competition in 112 status, so making final decisions regarding build changes and I came very close to clicking the carbon buckets, but did not for 3 reasons:

1. Tracking the car in any significant way is unlikely.

2. I am leasing the car, so resale value down the road, while it is a factor, is a much smaller factor.

3. Living in South Florida, the lack of ventilated seats ended up being too much of a concession.

They are beautiful though, and I'm pretty sure this is the one decision I'll second guess after delivery.

The standard seats are still amazing and look great. Don't sweat it 🙂

My perspective on this situation is a little different; I would of certainly opted for bucket seats on a lease, simple because I'm only paying for the residual cost, not the whole enchilada and I don't have to worry too much about ingress/egress abrasive wear on the side bolster, in the long term..

But I guess ventilated seats are cool also but I'm not sure how effective they'll be in Florida's humid temperature. To each is own..

i sat in the buckets for a fair while while they were doing my paperwork. i found them pretty comfortable, im slim but yeah they were alittle annoying to get out of. but I went with them anyway cause if ingress and egress were a factor in my decision making id have a gone a SUV.

I just like them, guess they look cool. felt far better than my F6 seats regardless.

I agree with those who think this is a personal choice, there is no wrong answer. I chose the carbon buckets and can substantiate they are very comfortable once in, but getting in and out is much different than typical seats. You need a system. But, I absolutely love them.

Now, what follows is my personal opinion, YMMV.

This weekend my wife and I traveled to the NC mountains in her 2019 330ix wagon, 12 inches of snow was forecasted and we decided AWD was the right choice. The seats are typical BMW seats, not as adjustable as the G80/G82, but very comfortable. However, I felt I was sitting on them and not in them. I sit in the carbon buckets. A different experience.

YMMV

Both seats have their appeal… one’s comfortable…. and one’s awesome.
Short story, two years ago I bought a 2019 Cadillac CTS-V. The car had every option minus the racing seats. Which is something I really liked and really preferred. But since it was a pre-owned car and all the other stars aligned, I decided to overlook the seats and purchase.

However, each and every time I got in the car I was quickly reminded by the base , ugly , uninteresting , boring rental car seat.
(M3 base seat is far nicer than those )
It may sound crazy but that actually spoiled the entire car for me. I knew I made a big mistake, One that wasn’t an easy fix - not without spending a fortune .

Not only do they look awesome but they capture the ESSENCE of what the rest of the car is.. IMO, it’s what connects you to the capable weapon underneath you.
Those recaro race seats in the Cadillac were nice, real nice… But not even half as nice as the ones in the M3. $3800 - think hard about that one.

P.S I see your from Parkland , which means we are nearly neighbors. My car will have a race seat. I’ll surely run into you somewhere . You’re going to see, stare and envy my seat and I’m going to feel very bad for you.

I will befriend you because of this . But I’ll always have the lingering thought in the back of my head that the only reason we’re buddies is because you needed me as a friend. Because of the sleepless nights you’re going to have dreaming about those carbon buckets.

Buckets ftw

I was on the fence, but I'm glad I have them. Very comfortable once you're in, they look incredible and allow for a better seating position. I'm 6'2' 205 for reference. Spec them!

To each there own and that is why they are optional and not standard.

I will say that:
1. It's my daily driver and I love the seats even if I am in and out of them a lot when I drive. Best seats I've had in a vehicle so far not only in the looks department but also the comfort. Ingress & egress is a bit of a pain but you learn how to do it with ease within the first week.

2. If you are leasing it's the perfect reason to get them as you are only paying for a portion of the cost since it would be residualized.

3. Me personally, never cared if a car had cooled or ventilated seats even in the hot summer months here in Phoenix. However can understand how some want this option.

I will accept this gesture of friendship as self-serving as it may be, and come August, I will remind you of your kind gesture while you are attempting to air out your Everglades-like posterior. 😆

I was worried about not having ventilated seats when I went carbon, but after driving all last Summer it was not an issue. Mainly because of the holes in the seat backs. Never overheated or got schweaty back. I had an M550 with ventilated seats, and I think they're a little overrated anyway

All valid reasons.

I just ordered a new G80 and one of the main reasons is because I have the normal seats - but I wanted to spec with carbon bucket seats. they're too hot to pass up for me

congrats tho!

Should have clicked it. Amazing seats and look great. Poster above me must not like carbon fiber.

No issues in SFL heat, granted it's in a garage most of the time.

I sat in the standard seats at PCD and they are fine seats. Do the job, but the CF just look better.

Having had an M8 with the ventilated seats here in South FL I'd say don't make that a huge part of your decision, they barely do anything. With that said, I still optioned them in my M4c.
