INCOMING: My M4 Competition xDrive in Chalk

All:

Just received word today from Gebhardt BMW in Boulder, CO that they have an allocation for my 2022 M4 Competition xDrive. I made contact with the dealership for the first time the week before Christmas, so I am frankly shocked they have one this quickly.

Going to use this thread to chronicle my own ordering, build, and delivery experience. Buying an M car has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I'm 33 now and coming off the best professional year of my life. I started joking with my wife about buying an M around Thanksgiving. It quickly became... not a joke.

In terms of build, I knew I wanted an aggressively spec'd M4 Comp but was extremely torn about the color. I went back and forth between Dravit and and the true individual color Chalk, and have decided to go with Chalk. I'm told that I'll have the first Chalk M4 in the US, but if someone knows otherwise, please let me know because I'd love to see pictures!

Reproduced the spec sheet below (ignore the color designation, obviously). I also plan to add the Parking Assistance Package when I submit my order.

I've also included a picture of the car from the UK visualizer. Unfortunately, their version does not allow you to visualize Fiona Red. I think one of the most exciting things about this build is the combination of the Chalk and Fiona, which looks incredible to my eyes. A kind BMW employee shared some photos of an M3 in Chalk and Fiona. I've attached a couple to the end of this post so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about.

In terms of pricing, for anyone curious, the dealership is giving me MSRP and 0.9% financing. They are giving me the now-expired lower rate because I locked in the financing before BMW discontinued the promotion.

Like everyone who starts this process, I am very excited to get my hands on the car. Here is to hoping I don't experience any of the crazy delays or feature deletions others have dealt with.

1/6/22 Update: Order placed and production number issued.
1/7/22 Update: Told by BMW Genius hotline that my car is scheduled for Week 7 Production.
1/13/22 Update: My BMW Garage reflects custom color.
1/17/22 Update: Bumped to Week 14.
3/7/22 Update: Moved to "Scheduled for Production" status on My BMW.
3/21/22 Update: Moved to "Production Begins" status on My BMW. I was also assigned a VIN.
3/29/22 Update: Moved to "Exterior Body Assembly Begins" status on My BMW.
3/30/22 Update: Moved to "In the Paint Booth" status on My BMW.
4/7/22 Update: Add some M Performance parts to my build, including front splitter, side skirts, and rear winglets.
4/29/22 Update: Moved to "Entering Assembly Line" status on My BMW.
5/2/22 Update: Moved to "Quality Check" status on My BMW. If the car was ever in "Assembly in Progress," I missed it.
5/3/22 Update: Moved to "Awaiting Carrier Assignment" status on My BMW. Skipped several steps in a period of 24 hours.
5/5/22 Update: Moved to "Dispatched from factory" status on My BMW.
5/6/22 Update: Moved to "At the Port" status on My BMW.
5/18/22 Update: Moved to "In Transit" status on My BMW. Vehicle is on the Grand Cosmo, which departed Bremerhaven on 5/17. Expected arrival of 6/16 at Port Hueneme.
6/17/22 Update: Grand Cosmo arrived at Hueneme this morning, one day late. Status on My BMW now showing "At the Port."
7/1/22 Update: Moved to "In Transit" status on My BMW. Confirmed with Genius hotline that the truck carrying the vehicle departed Oxnard today. Scheduled for delivery on Sunday, July 3rd -- but because it's Sunday and the next day is a holiday, the vehicle will likely arrive at the dealership on Tuesday, July 5.

Nice spec. The pictures show 825 wheels is this just the pictures availble or is that what you intend to fit. I'd say 826 (all black if it was my spec but it isn't)
Looking forward to seeing it when the time comes.

I'm goin 826, but the current plan is bicolor. I think the bicolor looks a bit richer and adds more depth on a lighter color like Chalk. That said, I struggled with the choice. You think bicolor looks bad or do you just have a preference for the black?

Edit: Fixed the visualizer to show the 826s. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was on the fence between bi colours and all black. Seen as I have a frozen deep grey M4 on the way I decided to go all in and will be doing the all out stealth look with black callipers (ind black roundels, front windows tinted , r44 splitter and side blades all ready to fit when the car comes next week)
So maybe I'm the wrong person to ask!
I had just came out of a nardo grey m4c and the wheels were bi colour, loved them but fancied a change. I did consider chalk but coming out of nardo it was time to change it up a bit.

Just sick. For exclusivity and uniqueness factors alone, I would have gone Chalk as well. Dravit is a beautiful color, but is way more common.

This was a big part of my decision, tbh. Quite possible that I never see another M4 in Chalk. I saw two Dravit BMWs driving around Denver the other day.

Order placed today and I was issued a production number. Chalk individual color approved by the factory. The long wait begins!

I have a big family vacation scheduled for the first week of May. Taking bets from the thread about whether the car arrives before, during, or after the vacation.

... and then some comparison between fashion grey and chalk might be cool?
I expect chalk being minimal lighter?
Do they cost the same?

Called the BMW Genius hotline today. According to them, I am a Week 7 production. Given the custom color and all of the options I included, I wouldn't be surprised if I get pushed later but I suppose we will see.

I plan to do a full PPF on the car when it arrives. I've picked out the shop here in Denver to do the work and shared with them some details about the car, including that I'm going with Chalk. They emailed me out of the blue yesterday and told me they'd be doing a PPF install on a Chalk Porsche and invited me down to the shop to check out the color in person, which was pretty cool of them. I took some photos of the vehicle, which I've attached below.

Damn, I sort of wish I didn't see this thread. I had no idea Chalk was an option!

Porsche's Chalk color was the big motivator for me choosing Brooklyn Grey. It felt reasonably close but also just a great color on its own. Recently at Laguna Seca I saw a Fashion Grey M5 and loved the look, but it felt a tad too warm (or something) compared to Brooklyn Grey or Chalk.

I had to Google BMW individual and found a site that allows you to use the visualizer. That site (https://www.bmw-m.com) does a fairly horrible job of rendering Brooklyn Grey so it's hard to tell how Fashion Grey or Chalk will look, though I'll say the Fashion Grey render seemed pretty close.

I was fortunate to take delivery in August for my xDrive, so maybe Individual would have been a non-option given my impatience. But good to know it's an available color option.

There should be a post on here from Autocouture for a fashion grey G80 with Fiona Red interior. Its also on their instagram. I got to see the car in person while I was picking up mine after I had the suspension done. Its a pretty cool combo.

Called BMW Genius line today and I've been bumped from Week 7 to Week 14 production. Can't say I'm surprised given the custom color, but still a bummer.

I haven't called Genius but I'm pretty sure my Individual M4 is also schedule for that production week or a few weeks later since all builds in March are getting the 50th Anniversary badge and mine has it on the build sheet.

Thanks for this post, because it reminded me that I am now in the zone for the 50th Anniversary badging.

Now the big question - do I keep it? How do you guys think the special badging will look with my build?
