Oh they'll remove the arm rest and comfort access, then throw on a tune, m performance wheels, spoiler, and lip. That will be a CS edition.

I’m sure you know what’s going on with AT only Comp - BMW marketing dept at its finest. Probably the same team that slaps M stickers on everything

As to the OP. Sounds like a crappy deal to take away options and probably charge more. It’d better be substantially better in other way and not boosting PSI to some stupid level in order to advertise 550HP. By that I mean other mechanical improvements that aren’t available on my regular 6MT g80

Have you ever met a German engineer? No way would they would approve a car--a halo special edition no less--whose engine output exceeded the maximum torque rating for the transmission.
BMW themselves states that both tranmissions are sourced from ZF. It makes sense that it's the ZF S6-53, specifically the GS6-53BZ according to wikipedia as they have used it many times before.

Scroll a bit down and you'll find them mentioning it's ZF https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/maga...tickshift.html

Good call, thanks. Interesting sidebar is that this tranny was used for X-Drive applications (including in the 3/5/X series in different markets), so technically it should be compatible with the G8X AWD architecture. Theoretically

My 2017 Performance Edition M2 has a camera delete, no comfort access, manual seats/no sensors, etc.

Other then the manual seats I would get all of these options back if I could. 30lbs off of my daily driver wasn't worth it losing the features

Well that would still limit them to 600nm the competition already has 650nm. So if this get 540hp like the CSL torque might be a concern.

Why would they leave the legendary M3 out of this? M4 is 'just,' checks notes - 2 generations in! Surely they'd HAVE to have something in store for the 7th iteration of their icon.

Hopefully so. There were clips, sometime in the year, of a mysterious G80 doing laps at the Nurburgring, and from what it looked and sounded like, a manual transmission was being taken through the motions.

I might own an M car I might be a bummer fan boy , I might be a lot of things but one thing I'm not is dropping 6 figures on a 3 or 4 series . Yes it is the best BMW all around, yes they are the gold standard for a sports car/ daily driver/ track Allstar. End of the day it's an m4 with a badge that says it's 1 of # and a special color .
It's a car lease it give it back get the new one until it's an e46.
If it weren't a car that there are a dime a dozen out there that no one but the people reading this would even know, it ain't worth it not for a plastic badge that says ******edition.
The electric m4 will dog that thing in 2026 anyway but a factory's length not a cars length.

I love my f90 but when the lease is up the down pipes and intake and all the other wasted items come off and BMW can have there car back and give me a 2023 of the same thing.
Plus the front of that car looks like my cousin it and marlyn Munster had a baby , oh so sexy and then you see the front and your like, but it's an m4 or you have to drive it to remember why you don't care what people thing for the second in the mirror before they see Marilyn again from behind

Why would anyone pay more than the Comp to get a car with less torque?

It does make sense making 50 Manual ''50 Jahre Editions'' which will probably be the same as M4 CSL, and it will be even more desirable ! ptgltw

The 6MT is not the 53, but the 45. Same gearbox as the F8x cars had.
GS6-45bz
Thus making it a bit weak. Bmw has modified it to withstand 550Nm.

I hope there will be a special edition LTW all out manual M2 in the near future. That would be a car I’d pay over MSRP for.

I can only hold out for so long before I buy a Porsche…

Thats not quite right though. The DCT can easily handle plenty of power.
But it is not suited for the xDrive platform BMW has now established.

That's nonsense, ZF makes the PDK for Porsche and it can handle more torque than what the S58 puts out. ZF has a lot of transmissions in their lineup as do other companies which can more than handle things.
