I said it the random thread: this is one color that for me, will not become a novelty. Its the perfect blend of new, exciting, different, yet will compliment the modified aesthetics and continually will catch the eye in positivity.
Drinks are never put away around here, always welcome!

Thanks and I would have to agree on the color (might be a bit biased though)!

I can tell you enjoy photography but if you ever want to take some more pictures of your car let me know. I’m in Milwaukee and would love to see it in person. Are you planning on driving it year round? Do you have some winters ready to go?

Unless I missed something. He lives in Phoenix. I doubt that he has winters ready. I lived in Phoenix, for 10 years, and unless he goes North, to Flagstaff, there will be no snow.

Haha. Oops. His username made me think he was in the Midwest. I just got back from a Grand Canyon trip - some fun roads on the way there and back.

Owning an M3 has been a 20 year dream in the making for me with it all starting around the time the E46 was released. Sure, I knew of the E30 & E36 but those just didn’t speak to me like the E46 did, especially when I’d come across an E46 in Laguna Seca Blue.

I’ve had a fair amount of cars over the years (11 prior to this car) but the M3 still remained my one true love and desire for a vehicle. I was so close to getting an F80 at launch but as life would have it, it wasn’t in the plans at the time. Instead, it was my wife getting pregnant with our first daughter, which meant daycare costs were going to be coming ahead of any additional increases in car payment by picking up an F80! As time progressed and better promotions at work came about I was again close to picking up an F80 when low and behold, my wife was pregnant with our second daughter! That of course meant daycare payments times 2 for the time being so again I held off on picking up my first M car.

Fast forward to this year with a few more promotions over the years, one kid out of daycare and the other one finishing up in the next year, I could finally start looking towards getting my dream car.

I’ve always followed the M3 news and have been an active reader of Bimmerpost for a long time. When the leaks first appeared about the G80 and G82 I was a bit thrown back by the design direction BMW was headed in but kept an open mind to it all. As the official launch got closer, more leaks occurred, and then official photos and reviews started to come out I began to fall in love with the looks and the performance. I just knew this generation was the one I finally had to jump onboard with my first M car.

I initially placed my order back in March of this year with Chapman BMW in Chandler, Arizona. I obtained an allocation for a May build within a week or so of sending my initial specs over to my CA. I initially chose Sao Paulo Yellow over Yas Marina Blue full leather with carbon buckets. Not long after getting my allocation I started to think about how I wanted this car to be more special and began going down all the list of individual colors I jotted down over the years. I eventually landed on Twilight Purple and chose to go with a Silverstone interior since Tartufo wasn’t available in the carbon bucket seats. My CA sent the individual request over to BMW and we obtained approval for the color about a week later, however, with the caveat that I would push my car out to be a 2022 model. I was bummed I was going to have to delay to being a July build at first but happily accepted as it meant I was going to get the color that I really wanted.

The agonizing wait for the July build allocations to release was really only the start start of what turned out to be rather lengthy ordeal for getting this car in Twilight Purple. As promised by my CA we secured a July build slot and resubmitted the paperwork for the individual color and thought all was good, however, the MyBMW site never seemed to update to the “Special Color” denoting that I had an individual order. As we got closer and closer to the production week started to stress quite a bit and my CA was frantically trying to figure out what was wrong with the allocation. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the color issue resolved prior to that allocation going into production and getting built to my full specs except for in Alpine White. My CA and the dealership scramble and immediately began pressuring BMW NA to secure another allocation for me. After what felt like an eternity, we were able to get me an allocation in Twilight Purple for a week 35 build. As time went by my build ended up getting bumped out to be a week 39 build and eventually stuck there without any further delays.

Fast forward from week 39 to this past week and I was finally able to take delivery. Walking into the dealership and seeing the G80 in Twilight Purple for the first time in person just blew me away. I was speechless and in awe to see not only my dream of owning an M3 coming true but just how much this color pops under the right lighting! So many of the guys that worked at the dealership were coming up to me and complimenting the color and said that it was definitely one of the best colors they’d seen come through there in a long time. Of course I would have to agree with them, but I am a bit biased after all!

For those that read my little story, I appreciate it. For those that didn’t and just scrolled down for the photos, I don’t blame and you!

Definitely worthy. I think if I ordered a car, again, I would order an M4 in this color.

My username can be a little misleading. Originally from IL but have now lived in AZ for a long time.

This car won't be see any snow as we'll take the wife's Honda Pilot up north if we ever want to go see the snow.

Did you seriously need to quote the entire post to give a compliment? We know what you are referencing, you don't need to quote it.

Definitely the best color I have ever owned on a vehicle. Absolutely in love with it.

Beautiful shots man! I just got mine yesterday

Have you been conservatively driving or fairly spirited? I've been hearing that the whole "don't rev it too hard till the 1200 mile break in service" is a myth and i've seen people launch it right after buying it lol. I'm not sure if i'll launch till then but it's so hard not to redline this thing - it begs for it

P.S. Random question - did you get a mobility kit in your trunk and did yours look like this? My SA was saying it's normal and I wasn't supposed to get anything else in that hallow styrofoam bit, but it's weird that they would even include it then.

Thanks and congrats on taking delivery of yours!

I've been adhering to the break-in process so far. It's painful though!

I did get the mobility kit and the same empty styrofoam piece inside there as well.

Haha I feel you on that. I’ll try to adhere to it as much as I realistically can too.

Curious, did you get your GAP from the dealer or do you have your own? Wondering what price you got since I was charged $1200 for GAP and $2799 for the Ultimate Care +1 at Chapman for my first M3.

Arrowhead was trying to charge me $1500 for Gap and like $3800 for the ultimate care lmfao. They got it down to $2899 and $995 for GAP after “asking for permission from the boss and to price match it”. Goddamn I hate when people do that in any sales position.

Anyways I realized that I was over charged as I saw somewhere that you paid what I believe was retail ($2099) for the maintenance plan. I wish this information was more easily accessible because I was trying to google it on the spot but couldn’t find it. Trying to decide if I should just cancel the maintenance outright or get them to bring it down to $2099.

Wait til it makes it to the bimmerpost FB page and you have to endure endless bucktooth comments. It made me realize how peaceful this place became after they cleared out the riff raff.

I'll have to dig up the paperwork again to see the cost of gap but $1,200 does sound about right. They said I can remove it at anytime and that it's a good idea after the first year since should be close to flat with regard to loan to value given my down payment. But who knows. Peace of mind I suppose.

Peace of mind with the maintenance as well. Probably still a loss with it even at retail price but figure if I can get to brake jobs done during that time it was worthwhile. If only one time then it wasn't necessarily worth it but again, peace of mind knowing that I basically have zero maintenance costs the next 4 years except for tires.

🤷🏻

Just be aware that after the first year it will be a very small refund as it's prorated - I only know this cause when my first M3 was totaled it affected the refund amount (but was still able to get most of it backdated by showing proof of the total loss accident date). Either way though it's 100% worth it to keep it and i'd probably just keep it for the entire duration tbh, since you'll only get back like 25% after a year anyways.

Yea that's where i'm at with the maintenance plan too. I was initially also just looking to get the Ultimate Care+ for $700 (3 years / 36 months that covers brakes) that another user bought, and that dealer finance person claimed they don't even offer that. Just had a sour experience over all with that dealership tbh but whatever, i'll just keep the 4 year / 50k miles one I have now and see how it goes and if I need it and i'll know for a future M car if I get one again. I think we're doing a safe thing!
