About how I figured it would go. The big Mercs have serious power. JB4 on the G80, and it would have been much closer.

SLS Black Series is just timeless. Definitely on my top five list of supercars.

They don't make 'em like they used to, on mommas mayn! And the sound of that glorious naturally aspirated V8 makes me pantalones tight!

Yeah...I mean, ~50% more power, ~200 kg lighter, 3-4x the cost when new and damn near 10x the cost now...it had better win.

Such a gorgeous car though. I do wish BMW had something similar. i8 styling was nice; the performance, not so much. BMW doesn't really have anything to compete with the SLS anymore (maybe the Z8 back in the day?).

BMW needs a super or hypercar….

2 door, 2 seater, 1,000+hp… people would be lining up for that with the BMW nameplate on it.

Is it me or did the M3 do A LOT better than expected?

Even off a roll, the M3 held it's ground until around 120mph i saw until the HP of the merc finally passed it from 140+.

These G8x cars are insane!

As if we needed a reason to look away from that pig nose, we have a beautiful SLS to maintain our attention.

Something like an m1 homage would be nice but not with the current design language.

The unspoken backdrop in this video is the missed opportunity for BMW to transform i8 by putting a more powerful V8 in it.

Not sure how this guy selects cars for such a battle… I mean if he wants to pick up a BMW car to race with top of the line Benz, he would pick M8 which belongs to the same power/torque territory and then M8 smokes SLS ☺️

Marcus Flasch referred to a unique offering from ///M in the making - something we currently don't have, he alluded. He pointed out, M8 was a great car but that was not enough.

I wonder if they are coming up with that magical car to compete with this MB offering!?

SLS is an amazing car!

At the year it was produced m3 wouldn't even think of lining up next to it, show how far M has come

Black series is just gorgeous from every angle, wish merc and bmw would do that eta type cars again

I think it's probably pretty random for Mat. A car is available for a race, he grabs what he, his friends, and his other sources have available. The green M3 is his, so it's always available. Considering how much content Mat and many other YouTubers put out compared to the classic Top Gear or Magazine reviews that were supported by manufacturers, lots of lopsided races happen.

100% agree. He uses whats available and still gets views.

And CarWow is pure entertainment (in the context of the videos that are posted) vs the likes of full review magazines that do head to heads. Mat will do review and test videos but those are just of one car usually.

But I like Mat and his quirks and comments. The format of the drag, roll, brake- process is an easy view.

I thought the video was going to conclude with a message like "this was never a fair comparison but it speaks volumes to how incredible the G 80 is."

Might smoke it in performance, but the SLS wins in the looks department over the M8. Hands down.

Yeah, definitely eager to see what they've been working on. A 9-series perhaps? If it's just an M8CS or something I'll be disappointed. Something as radically different as the i8 was when it first came out but with far better performance would be great.

I think whatever it is, it will need to be the top-performing BMW to gain much traction. Something to compete with the current AMG-GT from Mercedes. Better yet, throw everyone a real curveball and come out with something like a hybrid supercar akin to the Mclaren P1 or Porsche 918.

I think the new C8 corvette has shown you don't have to push a $400,000 price tag to radically redesign one of your iconic cars and still be a success. It's also evidence of the evolution of performance reaching a tipping point between usable power and traction, necessitating a change in layout. To my current knowledge, BMW does not have a mid-engine layout offering (i8 being no longer in production).

If they came out with something like an M9 that had the power and engine of the M8, but lighter and with a mid engine layout and xDrive, I think it would be absolutely bonkers and kill in sales.

Doesn't matter if a 1000 hp G80 or M8 comp smokes the SLS BS. The SLS will always be 100x more collectible and respected the world round. It's in a different league bruh, on mah momma.
