Glad to have found this thread. I'm having the same issue on the front passenger side. I've reached out to Sean @AST via the email provided here and tom@EaS, as thats where I purchased from and did my install.

I'll be following along. Hoping for a resolution.

I'm sorry you're having this issue, as well. Hopefully a solution is found and some sort of compensation is provided from AST to have the fix installed. I've had three shops look into this on my car and each time I've had to pay time and labor.

Gotta show some love to Sean @AST for his professionalism and timeliness of his responses to me via email. Fantastic costumer service prevails in my opinion even when things get a little wonky.

I have confidence at this moment that they will make it right.

Hmm. I haven't heard anything from AST and it doesn't look like you can PM Sean. But my email to them was only 5 days ago….

Update! After reinstalling the stock springs, there is no more noise. Looking at the AST springs with 3k miles on them, they have abnormal wear where the spring touches itself.

Looks like both front springs but specifically the passenger side. It's the rubber mold on the upper part of the spring that is deteriorating. It's worn through that.

Anyone know if we can get refunded? I won't sell these to anyone else since they are making this noise.

Can you post up photos of this rub?? I want to take a look at what you are seeing, see if i can spot the same while still on the car.

Here is a quick image. You can see the red coming through the black plastic/rubber guard. I believe the noise is from the spring touching this worn down part on compression.

This is what I see too on my passenger side spring (see my earlier post for pics). Didn't have time to check the driver side that day, though.

Perfect example of what I hear. Almost sounds like something is loose, or the tire is rubbing sometimes. I hope this is an easy enough fix and we can get some springs replaced. It is strange that its on one side only though.

Your sounds are a bit different than other people's videos it seems. Sounds almost like yours are binding up.

I hope everyone gets this resolved. Sounds like a design flaw of the insulator or spring...or both.

Hmm, that doesn't sound like what I'm hearing on mine, and it seems your noise comes as you turn the wheels.. Mine happens without any steering input; just up and down travel over decent bumps/road imperfections.

Yes, mine is slow turning. Going straight is fine, and I have speed humps in my neighborhood, but I have to go slow and angled, so I hear it again (but turning is required for that, so it's the same slow turning).

There are what I'd refer to as stops on the rubber top mount and the bottom, and we've triple confirmed these are seated in and up against those stops, and the torque of the top nut. Based on sound, but it just seems like the spring is rubbing/binding at these mounts.

I hear different things to be honest. I can recreate a sound when I first turn into the driveway and the spring gets compressed (easy way to test) as shown in these vids, but I also here it when I go over speedbumps very slowly. Those ones sound more like the first videos in this thread.

I hope they can resolve it.

Anyone receive any email updates since 1.28, last Fri? I'm just inpatient and curious. Thinking about taking mine off, but it sure would be nice to have the solution or replacement on hand if I am going to be held financially responsible for another break down, re assembly and alignment.

Would AST and or any affiliated companies consider in this circumstance to offer any other verified product that could be substituted timely? Maybe a full coil over at a nicely discounted rate for the headache ?

Not I, but I'm giving them a little time to do their testing, etc. I mean, the car works fine it just has noisy bumps.

Similar, nothing since Feb 23rd, and giving it time. I've had this noise for 1000 miles now. At this point, I just want to help the debug/diagnose, perhaps even "try" things for them.

I am not sure if this is temperature or mileage dependent but my car just hit 3k miles with these on and I started getting creaking as well. Both front springs are making the noise when going over slight bumps at low speeds. Can't wait until coilovers come out but am sad it seems that AST didn't do as much testing on these.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for your patience while we investigated this occurrence on the AST lowering springs for part # ASTLS-21-080 & ASTLS-21-182, for the 21+ BMW G8x M3/M4.

After testing we have determined the noise is caused by the black isolation tube being placed incorrectly during assembly of the front springs. After performing a spot-check on inventory, we were able to determine that some (not all) of the spring isolators were incorrectly positioned on the spring and causing coils to make contact and make noise. As a part of testing, we removed the spring isolator which as a result caused the noise to become much louder, pinpointing the spring isolator as the source of issue. On progressive springs, the progressive part of the spring coils are designed to touch and the spring isolator helps to remove any noise from this, as well as serves a dual purpose of tuning the spring.

After inspecting our spring inventory located in the AST/Moton HQ, we noticed some (not all) of the kits have the tube placed incorrectly which would explain why this isn’t impacting all sets worldwide..

The good news is we have shipped over 600 kits globally, and this affects a very small percentage of installed kits (less than 1%), which would explain why all AST lowering spring kits are not expecting this issue.

Once we placed the spring isolator in the correct area of the spring, the noise was completely eliminated. The fix does not require the springs to be removed from your impacted vehicle, just remove the wheel and you can access the spring to remove and click on the new spring isolator – which can be completed in about 10-20 minutes. We will be providing new spring isolators to all impacted customers with instructions on how to make the update, and all in existing inventory has already been inspected to ensure this is not an issue in the future.

If you are impacted please email us sales@astsuspension-na.com and we will get a new spring isolator set and instructions out to you immediately.

Thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.
