Anyone know the wait time for a base G80 manual with carbon buckets? I was told 9months from today for delivery but back in Dec a friend ordered his and has his delivery scheduled for April/May (Feb build).

Depends on so many factors - does your dealer have an open allocation or would you be on a wait list? Also Feb build doesn't necessarily mean April/May delivery as there are variables like parts shortages etc. Some people have had their completed cars sitting at the port waiting for parts for 2 months.

My best guess would be 6 months IF your dealer has an open allocation, 7-9 months if not (depending on wait list and how many allocations they get).

Just put a deposit for an end of year allocation for an M3 Competition xDrive. Toronto Red with Silverstone interior. Currently anticipating a March 2023 delivery! Currently driving a 2016 Audi S3 stage 2.

Thanks for this; I placed an order hopefully it will be 6months and not 9. Maybe I’ll place a few orders at other dealerships and hedge my bets lol.

I was told back in October by my dealer that my build week was 49. As of today, I have no VIN so clearly car is at best in early stage of production (if at all…). Reading other sub-forums, seems like cars from build week 49 are either on a ship and/or hitting dealership. Anybody else in Canada in similar situation? Note that I have an individual Color and carbon bucket seats which I am reading can cause delays. Thanks!

Did your dealership give you a production number? If no VIN has been assigned I'm sorry to say but you're not Week 49.
Regarding build weeks 49-52 you're right that some have started trickling in for delivery in North America but some Week 45 people like me have been screwed out of receiving our cars for a receiver audio module or other part shortage.

I did receive a production number. BMW probably prioritize by country/market volume and also within dealers of a given country. My dealer is unfortunately not a high volume M car seller…

If you have a production number that should mean that you have an allocation, however you also will be assigned a VIN right before the car goes in to production. If you don't have a VIN yet, then your car definitely hasn't been built...

You can also call BMW Genius Canada and give them the production number and they can give you the status.

Need some help

I've been offered an allocation from my local dealer on a 2022 M3 xdrive for a build date in June. They want a $2k non-refundable deposit but we haven't worked out any pricing.

Two questions:

1. Is a non-refundable deposit of $2k customary? I've purchased two previous M cars from them but they were off the lot so never had this come up.

2. Are people getting discounts on these cars or is everyone paying MSRP or worse (dealer markup)?

Thanks in advance fellas!

Deposit should be refundable. Get it in writing.

No discounts but no markups is what I've seen.

I had to put a $1500 deposit but it’s 100% refundable. Get it in writing. If they’re telling you it’s non refundable look elsewhere. They should have no problem selling the car regardless. I got no discount, aside from a $500 OMA rebate.

How do you know if dealer has an allocation or production date?
Or could they just be taking orders and putting you on waitlist?
Do they give you something when ordering? If they say status 111 what does that mean?

Thanks for the input fellas!

I spoke with two dealerships that have been recommend on these forums, one I've purchased multiple M cars from in the past, and both want a $2k deposit. One flat out said the deposit was non-refundable the other skirted the questions by saying "all the allocations will be presold" which I take as non-refundable.

Can anyone recommend a dealer that is taking refundable deposits on allocations?

My lease isn't up until October but speaking with a sales rep he is currently filling allocations for builds in June and delivery in September.

I dealt with Otto's here in Ottawa. My SA only asked for a $1500 deposit and was very clear that it was fully refundable if anything changed. They even wrote it down on the price sheet/lease agreement and the sales manager/SA signed it stating it was fully refundable for any reason. I originally wanted delivery next spring for personal reasons, and my SA said he would look into giving me an allocation around Dec for delivery in late March. But I changed my mind and opted for late 2022 delivery and hopefully should be on allocation towards end of this summer.

Same experience but I paid $2500. Also no large dealer who moves volume will rationally fight a deposit dispute. It's not worth it for them and they likely can sell the car within a week to someone else. That said, still get it in writing.

Maybe I have my facts wrong, but I don't think your dealership would have a June build allocation yet. Typically the allocation comes a month or 2 before production starts. People currently getting allocations are looking at March builds from what I see and is consistent with my timeline (Nov allocation for Jan build).

It sounds like what they're doing is trying to sell you a spot on the wait list.

You're probably right. I will ask that specific question.

"Is this an allocation they have or is this an allocation they are expecting to receive?"

Not sure if there's much of a difference though? I guess the only issue would be if they aren't able to get the allocation in June I'd be out a car…

**Update: at this point dealership with June production is willing to make the deposit fully refundable up to the point the vehicle goes into production. I'm still working on getting the deposit truly fully refundable.

At the end of the day you still shouldn’t have a problem getting your deposit refunded even once it’s in production. If it’s a big dealership that moves volumes they should easily be able to sell the car to someone else. And it wouldn’t look good for publicity IMO.

The reality is that any respectable dealership worth its weight will have ZERO problem reselling any M3/M4 provided it's not a completely off putting colour/interior combo. So they wouldn't need to hold a deposit without refunding. These cars are in very high demand and production is not able to keep up.
Also, in Ontario if a deal is signed and the car isn't delivered within three months I think you can get your deposit back. But rules may be different in every province.
Lastly, if you're trying to time to your production/delivery with your lease end I've heard BMW is extending leases for 3 months but not a day more. They are asking for the cars back so they can be resold CPO. So if there are any delays, you will definitely be out a car. Mine was originally scheduled for Sept production but got bumped to Nov (completed production) And now it's sitting in Bremerhaven port in recall/retrofit purgatory.

Similar situation with my G82 order. Placed it recently with a Week 9 Build coming up and the dealer wanted $2500 deposit on order and stated it would be non-refundable unless there were extenuating circumstances that would cause me to not take delivery. Doesn't seem in line with others

Scare tactic. As poster above mentioned, unless you’re ordering a ridiculous BMW Individual color and interior that’ll be hard to sell, they will have zero problems selling any G8X. If push came to shove you’d probably be able to get your $ back. One of the dealerships here where I live wanted a $5000 non refundable deposit. When I emailed the SA there and told him I already put a non refundable deposit for $1500 at the other dealership across the city, he immediately offered the same thing
