Driving Assistance Professional Package?
So finally got another mid March production build slot after getting pushed back from 12/8 to 2/5 to now I guess March. I have the driving pro package selected as I like the feature, but I hate how stupid it looks on the car. I do use it a lot on my other cars, but my m3CS doesn't have it and I didn't ever care since it just so much fun to drive, I'd probably never use it anyway. So, question is, should I keep it or get rid of it. What do those that have it on their cars feel about it?

i opted out of the driving assistance and parking assistance package for purely aesthetic reasons :P so i support your decision to get rid of it. haha

My car is fully loaded except the radar for the same reason…just don't like the look. And don't care about the features as I want to drive how I feel

I can never get it to work on the X7 so I didn’t bother. Not a fan of the booger look either so it kind of worked out.

Think of the car as clutching a cigar in the corner of its mouth angrily. Once you see it, you think no more of the placement.

If there was a car that I loved on the lot and didn't have it, I'd live without it... But I really love the fact that when I'm in stop and go traffic, like on the highway in a jam, that I can just turn my brain off. It helps to relieve some of the fatigue in those situations. No it's not a necessary feature. Yes I use cruise control a lot, so I like the distancing that the radar has. I mean if you lived without it save a few $$. You know what life was with it, and without it. Aesthetically, it's in a funny position, but whatever. It's black and blends in. If you're a person where things need to be symmetric then maybe it'll drive you nuts, but then again there's an asymmetric M3 badge in the grille too. |

I got it on mine and I don’t mind the radar being on the grill one bit. The only aesthetic related issue I have is if I can’t ever get the Vorsteiner grill because it isn’t compatible with that option.
About usage, I use hand controls and I was having an issue with them for a few days. I had a thirty mile freeway trip to fix it and used the driver assist the whole way there. It was very easy to setup, I barely needed my hand on the wheel as it steered for me through every minor curve. One of my only complaints is when it changes lanes, that is not smooth. It’s more of a jerk into the next lane. The digital dash shows all the cars around you. I will definitely be using this feature on those boring stretches of highway or in traffic.

I agree that it is a must have feature on most cars. My other 2 cars have it and I use it all the time on them and swore it would be a must have feature. But on my current CS, i don't even ever drive in D mode. I'm always in manual mode, running up and down the gears, having fun, and even enjoy it in traffic. I don't know if it's the car, but I just want to drive the car non stop and don't ever see when I would turn it on. I've put on 17k miles on it since April when I took over the lease (it's basically car crack for me, lol) and tend to go for coffee runs or salads to other states at this point which results in a 300 mile trips usually. Then when I get back, I need to fill her up again and gas in Indiana is way cheaper, so naturally, I'll go there for fill ups.

I toiled back and forth on whether the looks would kill me or it was a feature I needed. I'm coming from a Tesla and the driving Assist is one of the positives of the car. Decided I'd rather future proof this purchase as I intend to keep it for a long time to come. Now I barely notice the DAPP in photos or when I see M3s in person so I think I'll be fine when mine comes in.

Had Radar-guided cruise control on my old Toyota Tacoma. It did not come on my M340i, and I miss it greatly.
It was a no-brainer option on my M3 Comp. Once you use it, you can't go back. |
