VIDEO: Wrecked My Brand New BMW M4 Comp 😩 Totaled?

Was taking a much anticipated road trip from ohio to Florida last night and left my house around 12am because I couldn’t sleep I was so excited.

Welp turns out that was a bad idea as heading south from Columbus down through southern ohio at the wee hours of the morning the roads are full of deer and I didn’t realize it until it was too late.

Smacked a full grown female (which apparently survived) but the front end of my M4 was hurt pretty bad. Hopefully not totaled. But you can see in the video the video.

Be careful out there folks. Sometimes talking the major interstates are better than the short cut back roads.

Usually people put "/s" at the end of their comments when they're trying to convey sarcasm so it's obvious as text doesn't convey it very well

Sorry to hear about your car.
Good that the deer lived.
Hopefully insurance goes smooth.

Sorry to hear that OP. I’ve had a close call, similar to yours previously.

I picked a previous car up in Iowa and drove back to Houston over the weekend. On the Saturday night I overnighted in Kansas and took off early Sunday morning, because I couldn’t sleep. Few miles down the road I missed a deer by a hairs length when it jumped out in front of me. I think twice about that these days when planning journeys.

Are you an older guy? Bad reflexes? I drove from Oregon at 2am years ago and was going 90+ mph on the 5 and had Elk (much bigger than small deer)dash across the freeway and some stopped. As soon as you see them you turn your vehicle towards them. 85% of the time you will miss them. In your case, and maybe you’re not familiar with road animals, it looks like you tried to avoid them. You never do that. You will crash over 98% of the time. Thats on you.
But look cars can be replaced. We can’t replace you. So I am glad you’re safe and live to fight another day. Just next time try to hit them. It will feel very odd and not right but you will miss them. Ive actually done it with Moose and Elk.

Damn, the guy came on here to comment about a tragedy about a accident and most of the comments are chastising his misfortune. Regardless of his channel or fame, he is a part of this forum and BMW community. Op, sorry for your misfortune and thank God you are safe.
You can tell when someone wasn't raised right as soon as they open their mouth.

Sorry to hear OP. Tons of deer around me and it's my worst fear. Sometimes there's nothing you can do but hit them.

I live in W PA, and would never consider a long drive overnight. Deer are a constant threat these days, but much harder to pick out at night.

I've hit a deer, going 65, and a pig going 30. Both times they jumped out in front of me with zero chance to react. You are an absolute tool for your post, presuming you know what OP could have done to avoid the accident, then bragging about speeding and dodging animals. Hope karma catches up with you.

Thanks man I'm just glad it was not worse and the airbag did not deploy. The first shop that I took the car to gave some really high quote, so we'll see what State Farm says about it.

Maybe I am an older guy haha
I'm 50. But my thought process was:
  1. Brake and hope to reduce impact but don't slam brakes too hard to get hit from behind.
  2. Don't swerve at speed and braking at same time or you could lose control of the vehicle
  3. Hopefully I don't hit the deer too hard

But all of that happened within like 2 seconds of impact when the deer appeared waltzing out onto the highway from the dark. There were also no lights on this particular stretch of road just my headlights.

I could have braked harder potentially, or swerved but my thoughts of something worse possibly happening prevented me from doing either.

Well to be fair, it would not have mattered what kind of car I was in. Maybe worse in another type of car with less braking power.

That was my first thought after settling down... I need to plan out my trips a little more carefully to drive during daylight hours whenever possible and not try to save 30 minutes by driving on a backroad Waze route, and stay on the main interstates. But I love road trips so this kind of dampened my enthusiasm.

I ended up flying down to Florida and rented a 2021 Supra and that was a blast. Very fun little car. If it wasnt so ugly I would want one.

Thanks bro. I appreciate that. I am a video hobbyist so it kills me when people think I am trying to self promote or what not. I like to share experiences and love cars. But I was on this forum back in 2010 when I had a 335 WAYYY before having a youtube channel. Probably before that guy even joined the forums. So it's all good. Luckily there are a lot of kind people here too that encourage and share stories as well.

Your whole comment is absolute nonsense. First you state seeing Elk dashing across the freeway and "some stopped". Later on in your comment you say "Just next time try to hit them" which means you'd crash into the Elk, lol. Nonsense. Then you throw out all these %, 85% of the time you'll miss them or You'll crash 98% of the time, lol. I literally can't remember the last time I read such an contradictory and asinine comment. Deer, Elk, and Moose can run 30-35 mph and on back roads with the woods right on top on the road there is often no time to avoid disaster. It was just a case of bad luck, happens every night all over the country.
Glad your ok Will and sorry about your car. At least you got a nice fleet to keep you busy until the M4 is back and better than ever.
