Good job BMW!

P.S. Can we get that steering feel back now?

"Better" is a subjective term, not an objective term, which means it's up to each individual to decide (or get paid to decide).

I have a few bridges to sell you, in particular. I can make them sound very appealing, because I know what you're looking for...

I drove my E90 yesterday after a while of driving my F22, I thought it was low on PS fluid. It is such a drastic difference. In low speed driving it is quite the workout. I like how my M235i weights up in sport mode

It’s easy to explain, they are decently reliable and people that like a ‘rugged’ economy car are satisfied with how they drive. They are boring to me besides the 86, but I’m not their target market

Yeah, I much prefer the newer steering now. Overly heavy doesn't improve the drive to me.

I think their cars drive fine though.
They have a good weight to the steering, not particularly fast, but as a commuting car they’re more than adequate.

They’re the largest auto manufacturer in the world, clearly doing something right. And, their reliability is so well known it goes without saying.

Best vehicle certainly implies a heavy dose of reliability, and the OP made a point to single out that attribute as one of the core components of the study.

In addition, I didn’t solely focus on reliability in my response. These are basic elements of conversation that you seem to want to deconstruct to make… no point at all.

Try to keep up.
Trying hard to keep up to your arrogance.

I’ve owned many Hondas that ppl consider reliable, with higher mileage they burn oil which is considered normal and they start rusting heavily, neither would trigger any unreliable rating. BMW has superior rust resistance to most cars

This is great to see.

Now if they can only deuglify the cars I'd be ecstatic!

Subaru's also score high in safety. I kind of feel (I have owned a few from new) they are the most overrated automotive brand as they are only really popular in the USA and Australia as they had to pull out of the European market due to poor sales. That said I can understand why they scored high as they are simple, high safety ratings, owners value all weather capability over luxury or bells and whistles. Basically a simple, low tech, A to B utility vehicle with AWD that owners in Northern States crave.

BMW has come a long way over the last decade. They have managed to combine solid build quality with reliable drivetrains which has long been a hurdle that the Germans have struggled with.

I don’t know if that makes Subaru overrated. Subaru is almost a niche brand and they do what they do and do it well. They might not lead in any area except maybe for their all-symmetrical AWD and they don’t apologize for it which contributes to why people like them - owners get what they are looking for, nothing more and nothing less.

Yep. E9x non-M steering is artificially heavy. If you drive an E92 M3 from that era you will see the M steering racks are lighter than the 335i.

We just bought a Crosstrek as our grocery-getter, so, naturally, I reactivated my login on the main Crosstrek forum. (We'd had a 2013 version, the first generation, and it was basically a lemon.)

When this news came out, I was, of course, delighted -- and even more satisfied with my recent X3 purchase.

But when it got posted on the CT forum, the Crosstrek owners were more than merely disappointed -- they were hair-tearing tormented, and making up all sorts of excuses as to why BMW bumped Subaru out of first place (Yeah, Subaru had been first in previous years). A good one was that the great BMW service plan means that they don't have to report TSBs automatically, like Subaru does, so naturally BMW is more "reliable."

It was hilarious. HPH
