So it's not just dealers taking them into inventory, it's actual sales of the cars too?

That might be keeping a lot of these CA dealers from getting new allocations for AWD models. With their markups I'm seeing a lot of M4s for instance on Cars.com that seem to be sitting at dealers. If they're not moving them, presumably they're having a hard time getting new allocations. Especially with allocations tight across the country (here on the East Coast, some dealers were only getting 1 or 2 at the start of June).
You're not looking at it correctly. The cars you are seeing on Cars.com are ALL of the cars dealers are receiving and what's in stock (…usually little to none)….…..including cars that are ordered and spoken for. Even though the car is ordered and already belongs to someone in theory, they have to be listed as "inventory" until the car arrives and the buyer signs the paperwork. As you know, the buyer of an ordered car can still opt out at delivery. I've explained this before. When it says a dealership has 12 cars, for example, try giving that dealership and call and asking a salesman what's actually in the showroom or on the lot. You'll find that the websites stock numbers and the actual stock numbers differ. This is especially true in the major metropolitan areas. Trust me, G8X's are not just sitting around collecting dust.

Edit: Yesterday someone said there were a bunch of cars in the San Francisco area, which is what prompted me to post in here. I called today and the reality is there is one Tanzanite 6MT M4 at BMW of San Francisco (…with a prospective buyer currently looking at it) and one White/Kyalami M4 at BMW of Fremont. That's not a bunch of cars. The good thing is both dealerships are selling at MSRP.

Our cars will be twins, of sorts. Same color combination, same choice of roof. From there it sounds like we've selected different options. (I went with bi-color 825M wheels.) Enjoy yours in good health, and don't let the waiting drive you to distraction!

I can link someone to an unspoken for M4 allocation right now in Texas. Build locking very soon. Also a G80 6MT on a boat already and a built frozen white M4 waiting for a boat. All unspoken for. So just sayin if you do some research or know the right people you can get what you want and not get nailed on deposits, or overall deal. I can help you if you want…

Be advised….

…A buddy of mine who works for a SoCal dealership sold a used G8X last night for $7k over the MSRP of the car, and he said they have no incoming X5's due to the chip shortage. There are no parts for Harmon Kardon, parking assistance package or lumbar support. Ordering HK on your G8X is likely to extend your production/delivery.

All of the G8X cars come with HK standard, so that means none of them are going to be delivered according to schedule.

Oh that's right! I forgot about that. He told me it's really affecting some of the other cars in the BMW line-up when optioned with HK.

Looking for a G80 but not 6MT, and I want to get into the xDrive one. My dealer has had me on a waiting pattern for an allocation for a while, kinda tired of waiting so I am looking now to see what I can find out there so I can put an order and get this ball rolling....

Maybe I misunderstood but If I recall posters on here said M3 and M4 allocations could be swapped or “flexed” - I don’t think this is accurate - per my dealer M3 manual/ M3 base and M3 comp can be flexed and same with M4 models but not any M3 for any M4 .

M3 can be flexed between M3 models.
M4 can be flexed between M4 models.

M3 and M4 cannot be flexed.

Thanks for confirming- makes sense as they are produced at separate facilities. I thought some people earlier on were saying that M3/M4s could be swapped as well .

Any word on the next "wave" of xDrive allocations? Or so they just trickle in?

Sedan_Clan said, " unfortunately the market is still in a state of scurrility. The mark-ups in the SoCal area aren't going anywhere at the moment. People have gone out of state just to get cars at MSRP. Riverside BMW may do MSRP on an ordered car. I can put you in touch with someone."

Sedan-Clan, do you have a contact at BMW of Riverside?

Confirmed - Just left the Port!!!! G80 AWD

My SA called me yesterday…it's officially on a boat.

For others benefit, it sat in "at the port" status for 12 days.

Eta to the dealership in Cleveland, Ohio is first week of August!

Hyped!

Congrats man! Yours makes me wonder if I should have gone for the red calipers instead of blue... I have the same exterior / interior color combo but with blue calipers. Figured once I tint the windows, the red won't contrast as badly and the blue calipers feel like they belong on an M car (both historically and with the blue flakes in the BGM paint)

No one in the US got their 2022 yet. BMW has not officially released them. Should be this week.
