Still don't like, interesting that the reason for going for the huge grille was feedback from M owners (nobody asked me) who wanted the car to stand apart from the base models. Really? Wasn't the F80/82/83 generation a sales success?

Even if I get over the grille, the AT, no power dome, the anti c/w rev counter. Why can't they do a digital display as per Mercedes that allows numerous configs - BMW could even do a 'classic' M analog layout with red needles!

This isn’t accurate since we know that the base models - the G22/G23 - also have the large vertical grill.

It is true that the designers wanted the M models to be even more distinct this time. This is why the kidneys take on a different shape from the 4 Series models they are based on and feature a separated design rather than the two siamese-d elements. In fact, then, size is arguably the property by which the two are the most similar.

Still not a fan... A car for me should have performance and looks. Those 2 things really go hand in hand for me. Even if they gave it 600 HP, I will still not get it due to its looks. Just can't seem to like it no matter how hard I try.

IMHO, it's like dating a woman who is fit and active, but with a butter face. LOL...

To me the “frameless” grilles look better no matter what the configuration.

Not sure who they asked - maybe those look at me guys with the 10 lb gold chains.

The M3 is choice because it isn't overly flashy. It takes a closer look to see the muscle and stance. If I wanted to be flashy and noticed by the average joe non-car person I'd buy a ZO6 corvette or a Porsche 911.

I agree, although I find that I’m even more polarized by the siamese-d vs. separated aesthetic. Most new BMW grill designs are of the former type, and it tends to read as overly cartoonish to my eye. It’s easier to lose the aggressiveness, and for whatever reason I think it tends to look like a cheap knock-off. The separated design seems to allow for more primal expression.

Big enough number plate at the front in the UK, frameless grille and a dark coloured car should negate the worst of the design.

If BMW's design language (as per X7, 7 series LCI, 4 and i4 concepts) is to go grille supersize me then good luck with that. They also just announce that the most expensive car they sell, and just released, is officially the 'old' design concept.

Think he was meaning just proportions of grill and headlights and just the main architecture of the front end.

The design can be whatever but when you throw a disproportionate object on the face of the car that has no business being their and it's not even supported by the surrounding shapes it's just a mess and ya no timelessness about it. You end up with a car that is no more than a quickly passing fad that is in and out and forgotten.

Don't want bmw to start creating disposable cars that don't have a long life to their designs. Again beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to some it will tick the right boxes and it may sell like hot cakes but time will tell.

One of the hardest things to do is to create a beautiful car, something you want to stare at for hours and marvel at its beautiful lines. It's easy to design a flavor of the week, but to truly create a timeless beauty is what these companies should be about. That's how you get me to pay almost 6 figures for your car if you create a car that's more or less shock value and screaming look at me without real substance I'll just go elsewhere.

I remember way back when they started the flame surfacing and how the bmw enthusiasts where all crying murder !!! And sent Chris bangle death threats for ruining their brand and it eventually caught on and then More manufacturers copied that look and now at some point they will have to explore something new and daring and turn up the heat and do something that will again make people uncomfortable but you have to, to stay relevant you need to keep things fresh. We have to stay uncomfortable to keep things moving.

It's hard but sometimes you got to brake a few eggs to make an omelette.
Avoid omelets! Then you won't killing baby chickens!

Yawn. It looks like the f90 grill. They can't keep rehashing the same design cues for every generation and model.

If they reverted to something like this to please the critics I'd be disappointed.

Similar to my thoughts. I still don't like the new grill but the horizontal bars help break up the huge Edsel type grill and make it somewhat less offensive. Very much like what a European license plate would do.
