Chip shortages are at their peak now with many OEM's officially cutting down on production plans for the rest of fiscal year (that is a big deal).
We provide major electronics to the OEMs and unfortunately there is no end in sight 😢😢 to the shortages. 2022 builds will be a challenge, with bmw having to determine how to ration chip allocations. Not sure which models bring in the most profit..I'd say x5s?!! They'll prioritize those ofcourse

Same dilemma for me. I'm choosing to stay with my RWD allocation. My reason to stick with RWD is purely based on my lack of need to drive the G80 in the snow. I work from home and if I absolutely had to go out I'd take the wife's X5.

I was in the same dilema...
I now have a RWD m3 and enjoying it every single day :-). I had 3 test drives in the RWD, I only had the 1st as wanted the xdrive but the RWD took my breath away. I love the feeling of the RWD. Yes its twitchy in the wet if you flor it, but who really floors it in the wet? I dont think any one will be dissapointed with the RWD. Also I think there will be delays on the AWD, I have no data on it but the chip market is crazy right now and already seeing optiosn cut. Some one on these forums dealer told them to expect AWD realisticly next march which seems a bit crazy to me (we are both in the UK). I was dead set on xdrive before I test drove RWD - If i was you Id keep you allocation - can you also just swap it over to xdrive (the same allocation?) |
