Or just buy a lightly used M8 Comp for about the same price as a new M4 as another alternative.

I was in the same dilemma a while ago. Went to test drove the M850i. I love the interior and sound. It had much more pops and cracks than the new M3 (maybe because it was a 2020 model before BMW started to tame down its exhaust notes). However, the car did feel very big (I drove the GC), and while it had a lot of power, I did not feel I had very good control of the power.
I decided to put down an order for M3C. I got lucky and found a Nov allocation from a nearby dealership. I still like the M850i and maybe will try it for my next car if it's still around with its V8 by then, but this time around, I want to get the M3 first. |

I technically 'upgraded' to the G80 M3 recently. I had a M850 coupe 2019 which I traded at 88K and picked up a 2024 M3 at 135K. So price wise I upgraded even though technically went to a 'lower level' car from 8 to 3.
Honestly two totally different cars. I miss my M850 mostly cause of how badass it looked as I had it stealth PPF'ed and that v8 with pops and crackles all stock sounded unreal. With the M3, I enjoy driving it way more than the M850 even though it's a 6 cylinder and not 8, but I miss the sound of the M850 exhaust. M3 inside sounds fine with the artificial sound, but the feeling just isn't the same. If I was picking between a M8 and M3, then I think I would go M8 but only cause it's more 'baller', driving wise I think M3 would be way more enjoyable. I don't regret getting rid of my M850 for the M3, in fact, along with my M850, I also got rid of my Jaguar F Type R 2020 and I don't miss that at all. I wanted to cut down to 1 car and have something that does it all instead of 2 fast grand touring coupe's so M3 fit the slot nicely. I would have done the M5, but I have my other vehicles and my brand new Ram GT that does the luxury side of things good enough so M3 truly was the fun/all the while still somewhat practical vehicle. |
