When Basic Performance, our premier dealer in South Korea, learned we were making forged fitments for the G8X M3 and M4 they immediately reached out. Having run many of our wheels on their shop cars and customer cars over the years, APEX wheels were the natural fit for the G80 M3 competition they had on order. As you can see from this post the final result was worth the wait. The VS-5RS really suits the aggressive yet clean aesthetic of this track build and the weight savings and increased width of this staggered 19” fitment brought even more performance to the already capable G80 platform. Our 19x10 ET12 wheels also easily cleared the front CCBs with no spacers thanks to the unique spoke shaping designed by our engineering team using Creaform laser scanning data.

Not yet. Satin Black wasn't brought over as an initial sample finish so we won't have 20" set photos in Black until the final production wheels arrive later this year.

This is my only reservation about swapping to a CSL grill... zero rock protection. But it does look great.

Winter fitment update: SM-10 Showcase

A number of G8X owners have been reaching out about winter fitment options recently especially during our ongoing Black Friday sale. Here are some shots of our Flow Formed 19x9.5 ET25 SM-10s on a G82 M4 run as a winter setup.

This Flow Formed wheel design is a great affordable option for owners looking to run a square rotatable fitment with a variety of winter tire options including 265/35-19 and 275/35-19 sizes.

The rear fitment is not flush in the rear but the inset wheels provide plenty of protection against winter road spray. Owners looking for a flush aesthetic can also run our 5x112mm spacers in the rear which will push the rear wheels out without the compromise of running a non-rotatable fitment.

Wheels: 19x9.5 ET25 Front and Rear.
No Spacers

Tires: Bridgestone Blizzaks, 265/35-19 Front & Rear

Owner's IG: @Julienm4x

It's 5mm closer to the strut than the factory wheels up front, but we haven't noted any issues in both our testfit and with the customer's that I've spoken to running this setup. A really wide summer tire with these wheels might need spacers, but narrower winter tires especially in a 265/35-19 are an easy direct fit.

It could work, but wouldn't offer a huge benefit over a 19x10 ET12 front wheel instead which is what I'd recommend for most customers. You'd need to carefully size tires to ensure the setup remained xDrive compatible and the 19x10 ET12 will give you more room around the front struts for a wider tire size or model.

I don't have solid on car shots of this finish yet to share, but I'll get some posted as soon as I have them! In the meantime if you haven't seen this brief video, we do feature a sample of the color on the following video:

We also have some limited-edition Gloss Gold wheels that are going to be a version of this gold but with more shine that should be coming into stock soon. We'll capture separate photos of those wheels and post them here for those interested in sourcing a unique G8X VS-5RS color.

Agreed, it's one of my favorite G80s, especially on the VS-5RS. I normally don't care for Brushed Clear over our painted finishes, but this car wears it so well.

Here are some shots of our limited production Gloss version of Motorsport Gold:

Available in select G8X M3/4 fitments. These wheels were produced in our first run and have a gloss clear coat applied that gives the surface a more shiny/reflective appearance than the standard Satin finish:

Gloss Gold Examples:

These limited production Gloss Wheels are only available in our 19/20 staggered diameter & width or 20” staggered width G8X fitments in limited quantities. If you are interested in ordering a set of these gloss units, you’ll need to email expert@apexraceparts.com as they won’t be listed on our website. We’ll be offering a 10% discount on these orders while supplies last. If you are interested, please include “Gloss Gold” in the subject line of your email and I can work with our team on your order!

Motorsport Gold & Limited Production Gloss Gold Comparison

Our last post showed off some bare wheel photos of our Limited Production Gloss Gold wheels, but we’ve seen a few requests for a comparison between our Standard Motorsport Gold and the Limited Gloss version. The differences are subtle but we hope this post helps to give you a better idea of how these 2 finishes compare.

Motorsport Gold standard production, Satin finish:

BMW photos are coming in the future, but we hope you enjoy a look at this Porsche centerlock fitment in the same Motorsport Gold finish.

Gloss Gold Limited Production:

These wheels were produced in our first run and have a clear coat applied that give the surface a more shiny/reflective appearance:

Gloss Gold examples:

We hope you enjoyed this closer look at both colors! Let us know your thoughts and be sure to email in if you’re interested in our Gloss Gold sets
