The G80 is too big a car to be about a Manual. It is a luxury fast cruiser so an auto box makes more sense. How many E60 or F10 M5s were sold manual ?? Very few.

The CS trim level on the G80 and new M5 isnt logical to me on an otherwise large blistering fast luxo cruiser. Stick with the competition package and call it a day.

Logically I agree but nothing about these car or any other 500hp street car is logical. It’s not what owning these are about, it’s about driving pleasure. Some prefer MT. I don’t think they’ll get it in the CS.

Yes 500hp you are correct and it is a pleasure to run the interstate like a king. Take what ever lane, opening or space you want when you want it. Even if it's an automatic it's still good to be the King.

Maybe OP is right and the G80 CS should actually be a 6MT stripped out lightweight. Unless of course BMWNA decides it needs minvan window shades like they did on the F80CS. SMH:

"but its more engaging" "its more fun"

Listen do you still own the iphone 4? no you have the new iphones and new androids. the only reason manuels were created was because you had more control of the car and humans could shift faster than the current AT's its 2020 now its about performance and efficiency. Fun was just a side effect of MT's get with the times or go buy a 2021 Civic they will forever be Manual.

before i get any backlash i've been driving manual since i was 16 my first 4 cars was Manuel but it ended when i got a e92 M2 DCT and ive never looked back.

The reason the F8X CS did not sell well was because it was overpriced and not different from a M3/4 Comp thats it which someone already stated.
So true!

Couldn't agree more and I own still two manual BMW including my E34 M5 since 22 Years.

Actually they don’t. Porsche only offer MT in their lower torque engine variants.

Discuss.
Nothing more joyfull than a good MT. The negatives pile up fast when you consider the combo with a strong engine though.

The limitation in torque it can handle is very real.
The current emission rules make MT also entirely obsolete.
A satisfying direct shift and small travel clutch is extremely difficult to realise with high output since it's all mechanical and assisting it mechatronically renders the feeling numb and synthetic.

Chances for a MT CS are lower than that the earth implodes tomorrow.

I think the same enthusiasts (or crazies) who want a manual today, would figure out a way that it makes some sense to get a manual no matter what size of a car they need. When I bought my first BMW it was in the 1980's and I needed a bigger sedan. I bought a 733i (E23) with a 5-speed manual. My next one was an E39, also a manual. Now, years later, I drive like an old fart and my 340 has more power than I need, but I figure that my next car needs to be an M3 because that's the only one with a MT. It makes perfect sense to me.

Wow! I would presume, that you're in a segment that nobody ever imagined and that's really small! You have to gun for one of the ultimate sport saloons ever built just to get hold on one of the last MT premium sedans. While you probably would be better served with a 540i MT when it only would be offered. I never would have expected this! The love for MT goes very far apparently!

Well do the U.K. CS might be the only car offered with a manual!

Porsche offers the 4.0L 991.2 GT3 with 500 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque in manual. Let's see what the 992 GT3 will bring.

I'd like to see a 6 speed option offered on the CS but BMW would have a tough time selling more than a few hundred units in the states.

We forget that a majority of this car's target market have never had the opportunity to learn how to drive a 6 speed.

The M4 is now more of a GT car. It will have more usable back seats, an automatic transmission, softer suspension, cheaper brakes. Plus it has new tech and most importantly, you can service it at a BMW dealership where you can get a X1 loaner.

I just can't get motivated to buy a driver's car that doesn't have a manual option. Tried it once and hated it. Probably won't have a choice in 10 years.

What's this about MT not being able to handle power? Don't GT350s come with manuals and didn't C6 Z06s come with manual transmissions?

It's more about torque limitations, not power. Higher torque GT500 and ZR1 are auto only. BMW might not want to invest in the development of the MT...

I disagree that the G80 is too big to be a manual car. I owned a E60 535i manual and I thought it was perfect. I also extensively drove a E60 550i manual and that car was one of the most well balanced, best handling cars I've tried. it certainly felt more nimble and lighter than my friend's E60 M5 w/ SMG.

Bottom line is, it depends on how well the steering and suspension are sorted out. I think the G80 manual is going to be totally fine. BMW has had decades of building M3 manuals. I trust they know what they are doing.

The E60 535i lci ZCP was a peach and lighter than a G80. It felt like a more planted and solid 3 series to drive. Loved that car.

And that makes a BMW with MT a good theft deterrent.
