Jb4 Map 6
Hey y'all! I'm new to Jb4, always had a race chip. I'm wanting to know to those of you that have Jb4 in your G80/82, what are you exactly running on your map 6? I was told you can customized it.. I have zero knowledge or experience. I wanted to get some feedback on what's giving you the best result so I don't do something stupid and blow the engine.
Not even sure if that's possible? There was a video up of an m4 who ran a 9.97 1/4. I asked him online and he said custom map 6 running 30 psi?? Any information is appreciated! |

NKGK20 I was on this journey a month or so back. GabbyChaves is the man with a plan who hooked me up- so giving credit & passing along the wealth!
Assuming you opted for Bluetooth capability? If so it’s all through the enterface. This is what GabbyChaves shared with me as his boost targets. Trimming it out low/mid power band basically to reap benefits up top. Gabby- have anything else to add when handy sir? |

That above map6 looks like it might be problematic if it works the same way as the F90. The low 1500 rpm boost target would make map6 as an additive map then you're asking for 23psi over stock at higher rpm!!!

"Map6: Custom tuning map allowing both additive (below 10psi) and absolute (above 10psi) targeting. Setting RPM1500 boost below 5.7psi will make entire map6 additive, setting above 6psi will make entire map6 absolute target." Edit: Matt I'd love to see the log for that tune if you have it... |

corbs09 then with this above in mind, I’m being above threshold this makes this an absolute boost target map, correct? That was at least the minimal understanding I had when I left the shop. No maps, logged at shop on a few pulls with the owner as he wanted to take a look himself. Said it looked good and haven’t thought much about it since… I’ll go and do few pulls tomorrow. |

I see what you mean! So by 1500 rpm threshold being 5 it’s additive… ugh oh lol. Looks like I have some tinkering to do tomorrow. Going back to map 2… Edit: no wonder I’ve been pulling on everyone… hope those safety thresholds were working Last edited by mattburks; 10-19-2021 at 09:20 PM.. |

This is how motors get blown lol. I say leave the custom tuning to the professionals or at least those who have done it before successfully. Also be careful posting map6 that will cause problems like you did above or sharing your map6, just because it's tuned for your car doesn't mean its a good idea for someone else to run it.

hahaha I have A LOT of experience with JB4's (probably 8+years). mattburks yes, it looks like you are running an additive map but I wouldn't be able to tell unless you had a log.
You have boost safety at 28 psi, which I guessing is about 6-8psi over stock.. you should be fine, but there is definitely a better way to get there. |

Interesting.. I figured as much but their documentation is off then. What PSI is your car actually running above 5.5k rpm? I am curious what these will hit on stock turbos.

West gate duty cycle is a great indicator of how hard the turbo is working. It is very sensitive to air temps and altitude. My car at 1000ft above sea level and 80 degrees sees about 70% WGDC at 6500rpm with actual boost value of 22psi Typically the higher the rpms, the harder the turbo works to achieve the same target so I can't see why with the right condition and in a nicer lower range around 5k rpm why it wouldn't spool close to 30psi at or above 100% wgdc |

Here is what I recommend doing
1- copy map one or map two settings to map 6 2- focus on low RPM boost. lower it until you get decent traction 3- focus on the mid-range; that's where you can make the most power safely and efficiently 4- adjust high RPM boost but don't go too aggressive, that's the danger area. Per BMS notes, if you set boost lower than 5.7 PSI on any RPM, the entire map becomes additive. If not, then the map is absolute.

Do you have a big single turbo conversion? Hybrid twins? Port fuel injection? Other major modifications? Live at 10,000 ft elevation? The standard JB4 maps plus the boost limiting in 1st and 2nd gear are going to work well for most people until you really need/want the customization ability of map6. If you have a specific goal for you car, get with the BMS guys for some advice on best way to achieve it using map6. Just copying someone else's map6 settings is not what you want to do. |
