Where are you located? Are you xDrive or RWD?

If you are on xDrive then get DWS and call it a day. They have amazing snow traction for an all season and with xDrive it will get you out of whatever you face.

If you are in the Upper US with serious snow then dedicated snow tires will make you feel like king in that weather.

I live in Milwaukee. Yes I did order the Xdrive. We do get a fair amount of snow but I plan on not driving when it snows. Maybe a few days later when the roads r dry but temp is still cold

I'm a firm believer in dedicated snow tires for us living in the northern midwest, but in your specific case I would go with an all season that leans towards snow and ice, which the DWS does.

Keep in mind that in WI there will always be backroads, parking lots, etc that will have snow built up on them and will never be dry in the winter.

Always bought Continental DWS06 + as my "winter" tire. You can't beat the snow/ice performance, tread life, dry/wet traction and noise for how cheap they are. Plus I can use them throughout spring and fall without having to deal with regulations on when to remove your winter tires. In my state you can get a ticket for having them on longer than normal. I ran them on my outgoing Tesla model 3 Performance with zero problems in terms or tire performance and tread life.

Thanks. I do have my X3 on winters as my daily and use the M3 more for weekend trips or errands during winter. If it snows or have a good amount on the road, im def keeping it in the garage.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone directly compared the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 with Conti ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus? I have the A/S 4s on my X3MC and they are great. I have no experience with the Contis.

I would like to know that too. It looks like the common consensus here has been DWS. I know i can find them at Tirerack and Discount tire. Its easier to find Michelins in Costco and they usually run promotions too.

I haven't done the comparison myself but there's ratings on tirerack for them:

My only issue with the A/S 4s is that they are little loud and this bears this out (I really did think that before I read what you posted!). Don't really care about road noise in an X3MC or M4 so not a real issue but I wouldn't want to put these on something more luxury focused.

Yeah I'm trying to decide myself between those and the DWS. Seems like generally speaking the DWS outperform the A/S4s in dry/wet conditions, and generally the A/S4s outperform the DWS in snow/ice. But overall they're not too far apart. I might stick with the DWS just because road noise does bother me a bit.

I've always found the sidewalls on the DWS a little softer than the AS4 and I've appreciated the turn in feel in comparison on the AS4. The DWS has actually been better in the snow for me but the softer sidewalls lost a little turn in response. Not sure how this would fly on the M3 with its 30/35 aspect ratio tires but the soft Sidewalls and 19 inch wheels on my past golf R led to constantly bending wheels on even the slightest pot hole…

That's good to know.... and definitely something to consider....

One thing to consider is price. The PS AS are $164 bucks more expensive. Your looking at similar scores but $1080 vs $1244, for me I pretty cheap and rather save some coin while still getting a good product.

And the Conti DWS 06+ tires are slighter better on ice, snow, wet roads, and they are quieter....

Yes, pothole issues are key for me living just outside of Boston (and driving in the city a lot).

Born/raised Chicago area and never had snow tires and all cars were RWD...I learned how to drive in winter that way...did eventually have an F80 M3 that was a daily so put Blizzaks on from Dec-March and made a world of difference over the high performance rubber.

If you have an X3 too I wouldn't do anything on M3 except only drive it on sunny nice dry days and use X3 otherwise (heck, all seasons fine on it for 99.9% of conditions).

I hated the twice a year trip to storage and changing of the wheels...and the chance for the wheel jockeys to do damage!

Ran alpin 5 winter tires last winter. On dry pavement even in April they were great. They are nothing like those old marshmallow blizzaks I used to have on the Honda. Driven many Wisconsin winters and would never again go with all seasons. Michelin winter performance tires do just fine on 60 degree days in late March and April.

Yep, I schlepped 1st time with the M5 Comp and said too much. Got those tire bags and a light weight 3 ton floor jack and store them in the corner. (Using Michelin A/S+ for winter set). Car came with the PS4S summers😁

Edit: Adding this pic today. I love this floor jack. Not much of a fan of Pittsburgh products but my friend has one and I didn't even consider one until I used his. Had it for almost 2 years now. Reasonably priced and very reliable (and very lightweight). Pittsburgh Racing 2 5 Ton floor jack.

About to place my order this weekend for a set.

I have a lot of experience with winter and A/S tires but my dilemma is selling a winter wheel/tire set when i give the car back an issue.

Would people be more interested in a winter wheel/tire set if the tires were A/S vs winter tires?

That's pretty much why i can't decide lol. Car wouldn't be driven much during winter however i will use it no matter if it is snowing out or not. I just don't want to use this car another winter with the P4S summer tires.

You would get more for ur dedicated winters than all seasons. Most people who buy a separate wheel set want winter set up

I was thinking that until i read the replies in this thread lol. As people seem to be more towards A/S tires on their winter wheel set.

I am fine either way, the M3 isn't my daily driver at all but i do want to drive it more this winter than last winter with the stock summer tires.

I just wanted to know if i'll be able to sell a winter wheel/winter tire set easier or just as easy if i had all seasons on.

I'm going with VMR wheels btw so they do look pretty good for a winter set.

I have VMR wheels with Michelin PA5 as my winter set. Most people looking for a winter wheel set will look for winter tires not A/S.
