Why would it go away? The diameter of the wheel is still the same.

Not exactly but I know what you mean. It depends on the tire you buy. If you go with 30 sidewalls instead of 35 you are correct it would be the same size.

Yeah, but you have to go with 30 or your speedometer shows wrong values.
I know in the US it doesnt matter, but here in europe its not even legal to go with bigger sizes.

You are 100% correct. And it does matter to me. I don’t want the speedometer to be off. That happened to one of my trucks. It’s way off. LOL

I’m grateful to this forum. Good advice here.. I hate making mistakes and having headaches. This place can help you make less or zero mistakes.

Matters to me too. But I'm curious, where is the reading taken for the speedo? I, for example, have a RWD G80. If the speedo reading on the RWD cars isn't taken from the front wheels, then would increasing the overall size slightly by going with a 35 aspect ratio 20 (instead of dropping to 30 aspect ratio for a 20) matter to the speedo? I would think it wouldn't... (I'm setting aside any concerns of fit, rubbing etc. with the higher sidewall 20.)

I also have another question on this same topic. I believe the oem front load rating is 100Y XL. I am considering doing HRE FMR 2-piece wheels - but they only come in 20"-and-up sizes. I would like to keep at least the oem load rating up front, but from some quick poking around for 275/30/20s to use up front (if I keep the oem 9.5 wheel width), I'm only finding 97Y XL. I haven't yet explored wider front tires, and whether that would open up the world of 100Y XL 20-inch options.

Trying to avoid dropping the coin and 3+ month wait for custom wheels, to end up not entirely happy and then selling them on here

Commonly, the speedo signal is taken from the front wheel speed.
Why are you concerned with the load index? I get it if the index of your desired tire is below the official axle load rating, but if thats not the case, you can alao take a 97Y or 95Y.

Thanks. I'll look into the actual numbers. I wasn't sure how much extra room BMW built into the OEM spec, if any.

The G80 has an axle load rating of 1180kg on the rear axle.
This would be 590kg per tire. So you can go as low as 90Y.

So everyone agrees that 20X9.5 wheels in the front with 275R30ZR20 Michelin‘s would not only look good but not take away from the ride quality during spirited driving as well as not cause any problems with a lowering kit?

BMWs own specs for their 1000M wheels. This is what they sell, so, Im sure it doesn't mess up the speedo, unless when you get them installed, at the dealer, there is a step to calibrate it.

Holy cow. 295 in the back? That’s awesome. It already looks great. I didn’t think about doing 21 inch in the back. Now that’s a whole different conversation.

Sorry, broski. I posted more about the wheels in this thread. https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1855437

They are going for 285/30 20" and 295/25 21" because those are the same diameter as the standard 275/35 19" and (obviously) 285/30 20".
So with this combo, everything works fine.

If you want 20" all around you can easily go with 275/30 20" up front, works well and is no noticable deviation on the speedo.
285 square setup is of course also possible.

Here are a few videos with the 1000m wheels installed for proof of sizing.

So I talked with BMW PARTS yesterday they can get the OEM rear rims.
But with the offsets and all and I notice the rear rims are usually more concave then the fronts could this setup actually work???

I have a AWD coming in not sure that might help the cause being a square setup.

Any input is appreciated

Yes, works very well actually. Square setup is the way to go for an xdrive.
