I didn't even think of this part. Good info. Wonder if someone is going to do this much research on the P-Zeros. I'm worried about what I'm going to get. If I ended up with the P-Zero, I'd probably order a set of Michelin's, and swap them out, just because.

So if your engine fails but you don't have star spec tires on, your warranty is void?

That would be insane.

Maybe in Switzerland. I can't speak to that. But definitely not in the US. That's crazy.

They probably told him that so that he only buys tires from their dealership. That is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard.

Maybe in Switzerland, but not in the US. People shouldn't be spewing out bad information. He should sit down and think about why the same tire that is slightly different would cause any mechanical issues.

Where can I order the PS4S* star-spec tires? Will they also be available at places like Costco or DiscountTires?

Haha. Great video but true. Obviously for driving enthusiast and track guys, the star oem tires seem to be a must. But I can see the average 50 year old dude insisting on star oem tires because it's what bmw said to get.

My m3 will be a daily so tread wear and comfort will be a key feature that I will look for

Track guys will switch to a tire more track focused tire. We are making the star specs out to be the end all performance tire and thats not necessarily true, this is still a street tire with slightly different compound. Cup2's, ad08, rt660 etc will be a more popular choice for those tracking the car.

So I just got a set of tires from Tire Rack and the website and computer at the time of order call for them to be “BMW Star Tires”. But today after I left the shop I was staring at the tires and noticed none of them have the star like my previous tires had. Do you guys think someone threw on regular PS4S tires. Will be returning to the shop this weekend when time permits. $1627 installed with tire protection warranty. Any damage or destruction to the tires are covered up to 30k miles with full replacement. This is here in Los Angeles of course.

They have put on standard tyres. We don’t get mileage warranties in uk. Not sure how that would work in practice as would depend very much in how you drove and or track

Thought BSW stood for "black sidewall"

You are correct, I meant to say the computer listed “Star BMW” when the shop placed the order for the tire.

You'd have to assume that given the superior performance of the 4S* on the G8x, they would also be superior on the majority of vehicles, even if they were developed by and for a BMW, the compound and structure improvements must carry over to most vehicles.

If discount tire, they list ps4s and ps4s* as the same tire. Ask me how I ended up with 3/4 * with one standard for 10k miles and they're saying it wasnt the wrong tire.
