Been dealing with this since I got my car. Happens at least once every day when I’m commuting to/from work (45 mins each way).
It periodically happens in the wife’s car so I thought it was my phone. |

I think it's an Android Auto quirk perhaps not helped by BMW's implementation. My wife's Carplay auto connects and works flawlessly and 99% of the time, so does Android Auto for me. Once in a while it'll glitch, and more annoyingly, I haven't figured out how to get it to auto-connect 100% of the time (bluetooth on and phone connected to car).

It's been about 95% solid for me. Every now and then it decides to connect to my girlfriend's phone first instead of mine. Don't know if it tried and failed to connect to mine, or what, but if I manually tell it to connect to mine instead it works fine.

You can set which phone is priority if you into the device settings on iDrive.
