Chaps - I just watched a YT video by Mr JWW in which he’s about to paint his 911 San Marino. Interestingly, the paint guy was explaining that there are slightly different variations of SMB available. Paints evolve over time and it seems San Marino is no different.

Have any of you heard this before?

All paint will have variations over time and definitely from supplier to supplier. There has been some whispers that San Marino has a deeper purple hue to it in newer models. That’s all up for interpretation - here you can see a mix of SMB that is based differently than the past.

Interesting. Does it mention somewhere that this is a different mix from the past?

The chap in the video (from Logic in the UK) shows there are actually 7 or 8 slightly different shades.

In case anyone’s bored - scroll to approx 8 mins in the vid below. The vid is actually about the peelable paint they’ve just taken off James’ car. About to be re-done in San Marino.

Even without the wash, your car makes this thread the most valuable one. SMB paint is practically dripping through the screen. Sharp!

Thank you!! PPF and ceramic make a huge difference. My first car doing both and I am a believer.

Ton of purple hues at night. Looks great on a M5 as well but I think marina bay blue fits the best on the bigger body.

Simply gorgeous, regardless of lighting conditions. SMB would like great in complete darkness.

Portimao Blue is different and less expensive. San Marino Blue is a BMW Individual color and much rarer. Both are very nice blues.

You don't see the difference (fullness, depth of the SMB) between your picture and the one just above yours???

Pictures do weird things to colors. To be fair, if you've not seen SMB in person, Portimao has a similar hue to it.

Check out this post for a side by side comparison between SMB and PB. Though the pics and lighting were not the best, this is a pretty good comparison.

While PB is very nice blue, it looks quite muted when it sits right next to SMB or Marina Bay. SMB is quite close to MBB with some hint of purple hue.
