I'm glad we have options, and since the GT3s are so hard to get, I'm glad BMW is making their version of a track special.

I'm also happy that the CSL is not the way the standard G8X Comp came out of the box. I like that the G8X is basically a highly capable GT with its larger size, added luxury content, and smooth ZF8 tranny. And you can also take it to the track to have some fun. A perfect combo for me, though I do miss the rawness of the old DCT.

The CSL is what it's supposed to be...more brutal, faster, harsher, and louder (oh, and most importantly, LIGHTER). And once you mod and tune it, it will be an absolute blast on the track with some Cup 2s (hec, it already is, stock!). Love it.

Thus, I'm super pleased BMW is making a few different flavors of the G8X, so we can each pick the combination of attributes we want.

Well done, BMW.

And of course, if you don't like any of these flavors, don't buy a G8X. Porsche or Audi will gladly take your money (and what about that Z06?). We have choices.

And to think the core underpinnings of the CSL is the same as a 420d. Everyone uses this argument "it's just another 3/4er" yet we get something like the CSL.

You want to go buy a badge, go ahead, most of us would if we had the financial means but let's not pretend that R&D to get a car like the CSL doesn't cost money.

To me, there was always something charming and cool about taking a regular car and turning it into a sporty track worthy performance car. It's what made the M3 special in the first place.

I love my BMWs but that Porsche just makes a CSL look like a kids car.

Me too. Maybe it's the car romantic in me and which is why if I had the means, I'm taking a CS or CSL over cars that may be better. And I know I'm not the only one and these are the people that buy these cars even though everyone and their grandma knows that a Porsche might be better.

Taking average car and turning it into something like a CSL and put up the numbers it does > sports car from the ground up and making small improvements. At least for me.

All porch's are boring. Yawn.

No way I'd ever buy one. They all look the same and sound like VW bugs. Niope!

Evo UK said that the CSL was not hardcore enough, not as great as the M2 CS or the M5 CS.

Glad I didn't order a M4 CSL, waiting for another C63 black series from Mercedes.

As it should, it's a purpose-built sports car, from the ground up.

The fact that the M4 is even in the same conversation and being compared to purpose-built sports cars is quite an achievement.

It's akin to Subaru making a mass-produced WRX or Kia making a mass-produced Stinger so capable that it gets compared to a G80

GT3s are special, and these RS' better be at $225k+.

But regular 911s don't look like this or feel like the GT/RS models, and many still hover around $150k, and plenty more if you want more speed or panache.

Non-GT 911s aren't nearly as exciting to me, especially not at $150k+.

But on a racetrack is where even most base 911s shine, so if you're doing 6+ track days per year, 911s make sense...because you can beat on them and are highly engaging at 8/10ths plus.

So an M4 CSL vs. a 911 GTS? The BMW makes a compelling case.

I'd bet he's never owned anything he says he drives. Porsches are universally praised and to dismiss it based off looks just makes you sound like a poser.

edit: he probably valets those cars

I love sedans sports car, own evo9 and evo10 before m3 cs, and can go as fast on the track and on the street is amazing in itself, can't wait for the g80cs to come out. But Porsches always nice, but my neighbor got all kind of Porsches and gt2 RS one of the nicest, and I can't afford that so buying any Porsches 911 won't look good next the them lol

I've said it elsewhere, I see the 992 GTS with the lightweight package as the closest M4CSL competitor in the Porsche lineup, in terms of pricing, performance and overall use case. I am looking forward to a review that will compare these two.

Agree with this… P-cars are great if you have endless funding but you shouldn't, and don't need to spend $225k+ to have an exciting car

I think a good example would be lotus evora gt/ emira.

For 100k you get a lot of thrills in a pure analog sports car with incredible steering, nice noises, good looks, and much less common than a Porsche costing 2x as much.

I think CSL probably fits a similar bill but would really like to see DCT
