I was able to setup a test drive of a G82 M4. First off let me address the elephant in the room, literally, lol. The grill, it actually doesn't look as bad in person. It seems to blend in with the frontend pretty well. I still would have preferred a regular 3 series frontend with a little more aggressive bumper and hood, but it is what it is at this point.

On to the test drive. The first thing that I noticed was how much smother the transmission was compared to my F80. No more Herky jerky throttle. It was kind of nice but once I smashed on it I could really feel a big difference when the car shifted. It never smacked you back into your seat like the F80 does. I think around town it is much smother to drive but on a track I can see it not being as fun as the DCT. It did seem to put the power down much better than my F80. The power was pretty much equal with my stage 3 Dinan F80. Stock for stock, the G82 will walk away from a F82.

The interior is way more refined than the F80/82. The seats (standard seats) are a lot more comfortable and the ventilation is much welcomed. I wish it had carbon seats so I could compare those too.

I ended up not buying, not because I didn't like the car but rather I came to the conclusion that I would like to have the 2 extra doors for the Occasional family trip around town. I will say this: in the previous generation f80/82 there was a huge gap into how the two cars looked. The F80 looked so much better. They have done a nice job closing that gap. If I didn't need the extra doors, I could see myself buying a G82. In the previous generation I would have not even considered It.

Was comfort actually comfortable? How was the road noise?

The G80 is far more comfortable than the f80. The road noise inside is much improved over the F80. I would say it's comparable to an F10 M5 as far as road noise.

How is the steering feel? Does it feel natural or artificially boosted?

The steering feels much better than the f80. There's a lot more feed back in the steering wheel. I didn't push the steering to its limit but it felt much, much better than the F80 kinda numb feeling around corners.

I haven't seen the new M4 yet, but I did see a new M3 competition at my local dealership and actually thought it looked worse in person. The grille wasn't the only thing.. it was the ho-hum body lines, the altezza-ish tail lights, the tacked on body crap. Now the interior was great! Much improved over the F80. I didn't take it for a test drive because I knew I couldn't walk out to that monstrosity every morning and certainly not after leaving my office at the end of a hard day. I've always embraced BMW's controversial designs, i.e. the M Coupe, Bangle 7 series, etc.. But I just can't do the G80. With my 2019 F82 approaching 100,000 miles I was hoping to upgrade. I guess I'll be waiting another 7 years.

Thanks, I am looking forward to the LCI version. Still have my M2C to entertain me right now.

I like the curvy M4 tail lights much better than the hockey stick M3 lights.

Interesting, to each their own I guess. When I first saw it online I was like hell no, that's awful, but with time it grew on me. Now when I see an f80/82 they just look very out dated. No car should have to grow on someone, but this one has and I don't know whether it's because I'm a BMW fan through and through or that it actually does look good and I don't like big changes.

Ha. I'm actually at only 98,xxx. I work all over northern CA. I figured since I travel so much I better have a fun car. I would have 108,000 miles on it, but I recently got a Tacoma and have been using that for bad weather jaunts this year.

But if you want the extra doors there is the G80.

Or do you just mean specifically the G82 ? And you don't consider the M3 ?

Yes, I would consider the G80, but I would have to see it in person first.

I'm not sure about those seats with that exterior. I feel like the need something to compliment then, like SPY.

I always felt the opposite. F82 design was better looking than F80. Side profile was very clean and sleek. I feel G80 looks better than G82.

I agree, that interior looks very "Fast and the Furious" boyish. I would much rather have an all black interior. I feel that would look amazing with brooklyn gray.

I can tell you that you are the minority with that opinion. Most everyone I've ever asked said the F80 looked way better than the F82, mainly because the hips on the F80 makes the car look so sexy. The f82 looks like just another car on the road.

I agree from the rear F80 looked better. I just think the F coupe platform was a good looking car overall. My experience having both, many more compliments/looks when I had my M4 compared to M3. But maybe the sakhir orange color on the M4 was the difference.

I agree. I would LOVE to get that interior, but I don't think I could do it with any other color besides SPY. It just seems to look out of place with most of the other colors. I could have considered it with my Enzian blue exterior, but wouldn't risk something that big without being able to see it in person.
