Anybody ditch their key and only use their iPhone/Apple watch? This feature looks cool, but maybe not all that useful to use exclusively

i tried the key card thing for a day imagine the funcaionty is the same for using iOS product (NFC chip I believe). Reaction time is a bit slow, plus you can't open the trunk tthis ay if the car is locked. Also for key card specifically you have to place it on the wireless charger to start the car, but thats not an issue when using iOS devices so that's a plus there...

I just measured the actual chargeable area, and it's about 6 inches by 2.75-3 inches. Hope this helps! |

Does this car have adaptive cruise? I was just watching the Harry's Garage YouTube review and it had a Tesla-like view of other nearby vehicles on the cluster and he stated it does some light lane keep steering while driving in addition to adaptive cruise. I noticed none of these things during my test drive and the manual doesn't mention it from my quick search. 🤷

Then, with regards to the directions in the hud, is it pulling those from Apple Maps or from Waze? Does it only work with one? Both? |

The HUD Navi directions I showed was pulled from Apple Maps. I have Waze as well and I'll try it tomorrow and let you know/show you if there are any differences! |

System works well in my limited testing so far and includes the Tesla-esque gimmicks like the graphics of other traffic and self lane changes. The steering wheel is pressure sensitive so you don't necessarily have to move the steering wheel to prove hands-on, pressure alone would suffice for highway cruising. The low speed traffic jam assist (up to 60kph/~40mph) is the coolest part, does all the work by itself and you can be hands off completely. The infrared camera in the gauge cluster reads your eyes to see if you are looking in the right place.

Yes the nav direction does pull from carplay/android auto apps which is fantastic integration on BMW's part. I wouldn't know apple maps but waze and google maps work fine on Android Auto. You get the arrow and street name, but it's not as comprehensive as the full map display you'd get from the built-in NAV. The other good use of the larger HUD real estate is the ability to scroll through entire media list (radio stations, spotify playlists etc)

What do you think of the system overall? Is it a nice-to-have vs a must-have? Too early to tell? I don't really drive in traffic any more so I don't think I'd get full use out of it. I do take a few road trips every year, wondering if it can eliminate fatigue on after a few hours of Nebraska interstate... |

Anyone spring for the gimmicky display key?
I’ve seen it’s capabilities on the 7 (it’s basically the BMW app in a key) but wondering if the same UI carries over to the G8X. I’ve only seen one person with it so far and it was in a YouTube video. |
