Front license plate mounting?
Hey all...for those of you in the states that require a front plate, how are you mounting? Any pics?

I'm not mounting. My state requires one and I haven't used a front plate since 2009...not starting now. Haven't had an issue yet. When I have to go for inspections I use double sided tape to stick it on.

For the most part, no front plate is just probable cause reason to stop you because they already don't like your face or you have a crappy car they'll profile as gangster. Same goes for tint; I've had tint too dark for a long time. For both, the nicer the car the less likely they are to stop you. Often just a fix it ticket if anything.
What you do need to worry about is if you park on the street in major cities. Parking enforcement will ticket for things like that in some places. Also some annual inspection places may fail you. But small price to pay in cheap tickets or temporary installs for the long-term aesthetic. If you do decide on a front or are stuck with the drill holes, see if you can get away with a custom Euro with your actual plate numbers. Looks way better than our chunky ones. A quick non-drilling idea is foam lined zip ties to protect the plastic of the grill with loops drilled into the back of the plate. |

I don't think I've seen any photos of a G8X with a front plate.
I'm glad I'm in a one plate state now. Grew up in NY. Friends and I all tried to get away with no front plate when we were young. Each of us got pulled over within a week.

Carbonio mount. At some point I may tow-hook mount it, but the symmetry issue bugs me. The bit of whimsy may not stay, either...but it might. |

The 5 boroughs of NYC are going to be a problem unless you stick it on the front every time you park. If you park on a public street, especially one that has meters, you can almost be guaranteed you will find a ticket for missing front plate on your windshield when you return. It's included in their parking enforcement. I use a retractable plate that I just flip up when I park in the boroughs.

Texas requires one, I'm simply not going to use it. they can pull me over all day, I have 10-12 warnings from my X5. They don't ticket generally speaking, only warnings. I refuse to run one because they look bad no matter the placement, especially on the G8X. On my M2 since it had the bracket installed (bought it used for the interim until I get my G80) I will run it, otherwise it's a hard no.

I'm in NY and the lack of front plate is a terrible reason to get pulled over after having a glass of wine at dinner. The fix it ticket isn't as big of a concern IMO.

I haven't used a license plate in 3 years (I'm in Jersey where it's required) my girlfriends dad taught me a trick where you break off part of the front mount to the license plate, if you get pulled over pull the license plate out of the glove box and show them that it broke off
I never had to use this trick but I've seen it work for him multiple times The reality with this car is the last thing cops are thinking about when they see the g8x is not that it's missing a license plate lmao but time will tell

Driven Vettes with no front plate since 2006. Won't be putting one on the M4 either. Cops around here have better things to do than worry about a useless front plate. As this area is very pro-military and pro-veteran, my Vietnam Veteran rear plate buys me some consideration, as well--especially if the cop is a Vet. The one time I've been stopped--in my CR-V, for a "Kalifornia" stop at a sign, we talked about what it was like to fly an F-4 in combat. Never even asked for my DL.

This is why I bought the carbonio mount and keep it in the trunk. Can pop it on in 15 seconds in specific situations like that one.

I think the reason they enforce the (stupid) law here is that they have red light cameras that generate the BIG tickets and the cameras read the front plate. I have given up and use the plate attached

I wouldn't take the car if there was like a "you goto jail if you don't have a plate" law. It's that egregious on this car. |

I'd rather set my money on fire than to pay a dime to meter maids. I park on the street quite often, so I went ahead and just mounted the plate. Doesn't really bother me.
