Message 'Full Power will be available shortly'

Hello all,

After starting the car the message 'Full Power will be available shortly' shows for some seconds. (I am not sure this is the exact message that is shown in the english language versions as it is my translation from the message in my car in German language, but you all will understand what i mean...)

Anyway : i had assumed that this message was shown related to my car not yet having had the 2000 km break in inspection. Today my car had the 2000 km break in inspection and when i collected it from my dealer the message was still showing after starting the car.

I asked a mechanic in the parking lot and he said this message is normal as it relates to a cold engine, and has nothing to do with the power being restricted pre break-in service.

Can anyone confirm this, and do your cars also still show the message after the 2000 km / 1500 miles break in service ?

That’s what you get on cold starts where the redline is temporarily reduced.

OK thanks, so it has nothing to do with not yet having had the break-in inspection.

I just assumed it had, because i have never had any other BMW (this is my first BMW M) that had this message shown after engine - start, so i thought i was related to the break-in inspection.

Yep. In my experience, there was no change in available power after break-in. The unlock for me was simply being able to go to redline. It's very strong past 5500, and was a nice payoff after 1200 miles of anticipation.

Yup this is exactly it, the F8X M3/M4 had the same warning on cold start, takes around 30 seconds to disappear and as it does the redline RPM limit gradually increases.

It must be related to OPF filter then. Now that you mention it, I never had the message com up in my pre-OPF MY2017 M4, but I did have it on my MY2019 M4 which had the new emissions OPF.

That would explain why it does not show up in US, but does in EU.

The message in itself might be new, but the concept has existed on every M3/4 since the E46, where the redline is reduced when the engine is cold and progressively increases as the engine reaches operating temp.

Have not seen this message in my G82 or F80. US spec here. Wonder if it's a euro thing?

It only appears on OPF vehicles during lean burn cycles (just after start-up and during filter regen).

So then i can assume the US cars do not have the OPF-filter ? So the US cars will then also sound different or better from the Euro cars ? So far i have not seen any comments on this - that there is a difference in exhaust noise betweeen US and Euro cars.

The only way to test is for 2 people to buy the same decibel recorder, and compare notes either side of the pond. Anything else is speculation, unless BMW releases a notice about this - doubtful since the cars are already launched and they've said nothing.

Yes, you are correct. I had my US Spec G80 next to a Euro Spec G80 and my exhaust sounded much louder. It is because US Spec cars do not have a OPF filter but Euro spec cars do. I believe that the TUV inspection also looks for this before passing your car.

I did not get the message on my predecessor F82 non OPF, in my G82 it appears every morning. It is an OPF topic!
